My Philosophy
  • Educate the whole person
  • Teacher/parent must partner and communicate
  • Develop positive self esteem especially with the
    changes occurring to mind and body in 5th grade.
  • Assist in making our school a faith
    community/practice monthly virtues
  • Foster independent thinking/learning.
  • Parents, you are the primary educators of your
    children. Together, we can help advance your
    childs education.

Language Arts
  • Reading, Spelling, and Grammar are all parts of
    Language Arts
  • Daily Assignments students can work on these
    assignments in class( for approximately 15 min)
    to make sure they understand the concepts.
    Whatever work in not completed in class is
    homework.
  • Reading test every Friday

Spelling
  • Spelling words are introduced every Monday
    (except holidays)
  • Spelling words written three times each due
    Tuesdays
  • Spelling exercises are due Thursdays.
  • Spelling test ever Friday

Math
  • This year we will cover
  • Data, graphs, whole numbers, decimals, place
    value, problem solving, measurements
  • Multiplication, division, geometry-exploring
    angles polygons
  • Fractions, fractions operations, mixed numbers
  • Length, perimeter, area
  • Ratio, percent, probability

Science
  • Hands on Science begins September 8th .
  • Time 10 weeks from 830-930
  • Ann Trentman is the coordinator for Hands on
    Science.
  • Thank you volunteers

Social Studies
  • State and Capital test will be given the end of
    January.
  • State reports due in March (details will be given
    to students at the beginning of the third
    quarter).
  • This year we will study United States History.

Religion
  • Bible ceremony each student will receive a
    bible at our 5th grade bible ceremony.
  • Helping Hands service hours extra credit.
  • Family Life will be taught in the spring.

Alphabet Autobiography
  • This special project is due in May.
  • Your child will assemble a scrapbook binder about
    their life and their experiences in 5th grade.
  • Your child will use every letter of the alphabet
    to start each page.

Classroom Rules
  • Our classroom is a community. In our community,
    we have rules to help us get along with each
    other.
  • Our class rules are
  • Follow directions
  • Be on time and in your seat ready to work when
    the bell rings
  • Raise your hand to speak and wait to be called
    upon.
  • Hand in ALL assignments, completed and on time
  • Follow the rules in our hand book.

Homework
  • I will assign about 45 minutes of homework
  • Homework (Monday Thursday)
  • Not all homework is written work. Studying is
    homework and it is as important as written work.
  • All loose leaf homework should have a mark
    (stamp, check mark, sticker, note, etc.) on it to
    verify that I have seen it.
  • Homework is an important part of the final grade.
  • Please put your childs work in a file at home
    until the end of each quarter.

Tardiness
  • School starts at 820 a.m.
  • If you arent in the classroom by the time the
    bell rings, please check in at the school office
    for a tardy slip.
  • If a student is absent he/she will have two days
    for every day absent to make up school work.

Discipline/Rewards
  • Discipline Breaking the Rules
  • 1st time Students name in notebook (warning)
  • 2nd time A pink ticket given to teacher and 10
    points off students conduct grade (each students
    starts with 100 points each week).
  • Conduct grades posted weekly in Power school.
  • Severe disruption Sent immediately to the
    office and will see the principal or vice
    principal.

Field Trips
  • We will have fun field trips this year!
  • Many of our field trips are subsidized by school
    fundraising.
