Interventions
  • Our Goal this year was to reduce student tardies.
  • Interventions that we have tried include
  • One Minute Music Warnings
  • Teachers in the halls during passing time.
  • Principals 200 Club coupons
  • Cash Rewards
  • No Tardy Parties
  • Lunch Detention
  • After school Detention
  • TNT Tardies Not Tolerated

5
Rationale
  • Last years data clearly showed that tardies were
    our biggest referral area.
  • Tardies unnecessarily absorb teacher
administrative time and disrupt the classroom
    environment.

6
Data Indicators
7
Data Indicators
8
Trends and changes in data indicators after
intervention
  • Although we have seen subtle improvements, we
have not seen a dramatic improvement in tardies
    despite trying various interventions.
  • There are other variables that should be
considered such as an increasing student
    population, more crowded halls, etc.

9
Implementation Description
  • Faculty and Students received training.
  • Motivators were offered consistently to both
    students and staff.
  • We are still using all of the interventions
mentioned earlier. Some of the interventions are
newer, and we are waiting to see if the data
shows that the interventions have been
    successful.

10
Implementation Continued
  • Even though the data doesnt show significant
changes, we feel that the overall school climate
and culture has changed to the point that we have
a minimal amount of major offenses.

11
Surveys
  • Included is the survey results for students of
    South Jordan Middle.

Survey Results
  • The survey results suggest that bullying in the
hallways is the biggest concern that our students
    have.
  • The building layout/design isnt helpful with the
number of students that need to get through the
    halls each passing time.
  • Increased supervision is necessary to help
    alleviate some of the problems.

15
Summary
  • We have found that the things we are doing are
having a positive effect on our students.
  • The majority of the ODRs are dealing with
excessive tardies and confiscated items such as
    Ipods, phones, etc.(85)
  • We feel that the School-wide Rules, School Wide
Citizenship, Principals 200 Club, Student of the
Day, and Student of the Month have been great
    preventative measures for serious offenses.
