Sevier Abstract
System control and data acquisition for the IMS
probe is accomplished using National Instruments
(Austin, TX) LabVIEW software and USB 6259 DAQ
hardware. The user interface allows it to be used
in the field and lab. One of the key features of
the program is the reduced mobility calculation
and analyte database. The analyte database allows
the user to identify a number of contaminates
that match the peaks reduced mobility. This
database can be adjusted to meet the users need
(listed analytes can be added or removed).
Another key feature is the 3D spectrum plot,
which allows the user to visually evaluate past
and current spectra in real time. Additional
features include gate control wave synthesis,
spectrum data capture, running averaging (for
noise reduction), sample module control, mass
flow control, positive/negative mode control, and
data write. The data write feature allows the
user to capture data at any interval in time,
allowing users to run experiments for days
without needing to be present. In conclusion this
program is user friendly, easily modified to meet
the users needs, and can be used both in the lab
and the field.
