Title: The Art of the Apothecary

1
The Art of the Apothecary
  • CHRISTIAN HOUSE OF PRAYER - SAN ANGELO
  • January 2008

2
Making the Anointing Oil
  • An Apothecary is like a pharmacist, a druggist or
a perfumer. Apothecaries would gather items such
as tree barks, branches, roots, herbs and spices
as God would instruct them. Genesis identifies
two types of trees (Gen 29)
  • The Tree of Life (which represents Jesus)
  • The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

3
Education Verses Revelation
  • What we are to learn in life should come from the
Tree of Life not from the Tree of Knowledge of
Good and Evil. We are living in a day where some
people think that education is everything. We
all need education, but we cannot know God by
education alone! We must know Him by revelation
We must experience Him. After we come to know
Him by revelation, some may preach by a position
of education, and not from a position of
revelation. These people can explain truth but
    havent lived it.

4
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Experiences
(Exodus 3035-36)
  • The Apothecary takes all the ingredients and
mixes or beats them together notice there were
some bitter and some sweet. This mixture
represents us it is our experiences in Christ
and outside of Christ. This is how life is
bitter and sweet. All of it is put in the mix.
God uses the good and bad, the pretty and the
ugly and makes all things work together for our
good. (Romans 1228) God never causes evil to
happen to anyone, but he does use it in the mix.

5
Five Principle Spices
  • The five principle spices (myrrh, cinnamon,
calamus, cassis, and olive oil) represent the
ministry of GRACE. Meaning that no matter what
the devil brings Gods grace is sufficient

6
Four Sweet Spices
  • The four sweet spices (stacte, onycha, galbanum,
and frankincense) represent the work of SALVATION
through Jesus Christ (His crucifixion, death,
burial, and resurrection) When these two numbers
are added together, it equals nine (459),
which represents the number of the Holy Spirit
    (gifts and fruits

  • Gen 2818 And Jacob rose up early in the
morning, and took the stone that he had put for
his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and
poured oil upon the top of it.
  • 1Sa 1613 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and
anointed him in the midst of his brethren and
the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that
day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to
    Ramah.
  • Luk 746 My head with oil thou didst not
anoint but this woman hath anointed my feet with
    ointment.

9
More Scriptural Application
  • Jam 514 Is any sick among you? let him call for
the elders of the church and let them pray over
him, anointing him with oil in the name of the
    Lord
  • Psa 235 Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies thou anointest my head
with oil my cup runneth over.
  • Psa 9210 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the
horn of an unicorn I shall be anointed with
    fresh oil.

Purification, Beautification, and Preparation -
Esther 212
  • Each young woman's turn came to go in to King
Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months'
preparation, according to the regulations for the
women, for thus were the days of their
purifications were accomplished six months with
oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and
preparations for beautifying women. 13 Thus
prepared, each young woman went to the king, and
she was given whatever she desired to take with
her from the women's quarters to the king's
    palace.

11
Purification, Beautification, and Preparation -
Esther 212
  • Esther prepared herself for 12 months (6 months
in myrrh, 6 months in perfumes) before coming to
the king. The art of the apothecary is a
process Purification (being purged from dead
works and fleshly ways), Preparation (taking the
time to go through the process of being made so
we can be made) Beautification (involves praise
and worship) and not solely about outer
    appearance.

12
A Note About Divine Relationships
  • Using the oil liberally will help every married
couple in their relationship to know the
importance of preparation. Because it is a type
and shadow of the anointing, it must be applied
    in every family.
