3MPI-Munich prototype for Wires, Gem or Micromegas
test in 5T magnet at DESYWire version ready, Gem
version in preparation
4- Pad plane 100mm x 100mm
- Pad size 2mm x 6mm
- 12 of 16 rows (384 pads) instrumentable
- Wire spacing 2mm (without fieldwires)
- Pad-wire distance 1mm (s_PRF 1.4mm, in
principle -gt to be measured) - No gating plane for the moment

15Tests in K2 Beam
- 1-4 Gev/c pi,K,p with C,Aerogel,TOF
- 7 Pad rows equipped
- V_drift_meas4.5cm/µs - 1 TDR gas
- Diffusion, resolution, ect as fcn of B, drift
dist, pad-crossing angle not yet dip, e.g. - dE/dx measurements
- Analysis in progress, some results for Victoria
16Next steps
- Move to Cryo Hall
- Continue testing with cosmics
- Prepare conversion to Gems, Micromegas
- Install Gems around October
- Test with cosmics up to April05
- Continue beam tests
17Conversion to Gems
- Decided to use a 4-Gem stack triple Gem for gas
amplification, one Gem for gating - KEK will make a new 'Zwischenflansch' for
mounting the padplane 4 Gem stack - New 'Zwischenflansch' will have extra HV
feedthroughs as proposed by Philippe
Rosier/Tscharlie Ackermann), to be fabricated at
Kek - It looks like the best solution is to remove the
last FC ring (rather than leave the last one in
and mill off some material) - Need Guardring as proposed by Bernard Genolini
- KEK will manufacture the Gem frames and
spacers,etc
18Studies with IPN Orsay
- (Joel, Philippe, Bernard, Vincent and others)
- Looking at end-plate mechanics -gt material
dominated by electronics -gt - will lt 30 rad. length be possible?
- Now designing triple-Gem plane for MPI
prototype, to be tested later at KEK
