  • Jer 616 Thus says the LORD, "Stand by the ways
and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the
good way is, and walk in it And you will find
rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not
    walk in it.'

13
The Problem With Contemporary Worship
  • Poll the neighborhood to see what sorts of
activities people enjoy and then build a church
    that meets those specifications.
  • Downplay religion to avoid offending anyone.
  • It has no connection through the centuries to the
    original God ordained worship.

14
The Problem With Contemporary Worship
  • It throws out all the old things and starts
    completely over from scratch.
  • It denies the validity of the old, and
paradoxically also denies the basis on which it
    claims to stand.
  • It has invented a new contemporary religion
that is based in contemporary marketing
    techniques and expressed in contemporary
    entertainment genres.

15
The Problem With Contemporary Worship
In effect, the congregation is worshiping itself !
  • It is inherently narcissistic, because it is
worship the way I want it, in ways that please
    me.
  • It asks the question How would a congregation
of secular people like to be entertained?
  • It never asks How does God want to be
    worshiped?

16
The Problem With Contemporary Worship
  • Our worship must be centered on God.
  • If a congregation makes itself a
higher-priority than God if it is more
important for them to please themselves than to
please God, then their priorities are skewed and
    their worship is malformed.
  • Do we assemble to worship God, or for
    group-therapy for narcissists?

17
  • 2Co 1114-15 No wonder, for even Satan disguises
himself as an angel of light.
  • Therefore it is not surprising if his servants
also disguise themselves as servants of
righteousness, whose end will be according to
    their deeds.

18
How to start a contemporary worship service
  • Start slowly (Approach members who have
demonstrated an interest and will support you.
    Slowly assemble your team.)
  • Start by introducing one song during normal
    worship as special music.
  • If there is opposition, hold contemporary
worship at different times (until you gain
    momentum).
  • Hire the best possible musicians.

Act 2029-30 I know that after my departure
savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing
the flock and from among your own selves men
will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw
away the disciples after them.
19
How to start a contemporary worship service
  • Spice it up! Use different perspectives,
different voices, and fresh music. Invite new
bands in your community looking for exposure to
    play at your worship.
  • Create a spiritual atmosphere and tone. Give
people the message in manageable bites.
(People just dont want 20-minute sermons!)
  • Break out of the expected time-slots!

20
How to start a contemporary worship service
  • Think Embodiment! How is your message
embodied? Are people only encouraged to think,
or are they asked to move, to feel, to sense? Do
people get to dance to the wonderful music? Are
there portions that engage our eyes through
visual stimulation? Sharing taste sensations is
another idea for worship think love feasts or
    communions of different sorts.

and in an orderly manner.

44
Secular Humanism
  • Is Here !

45
The Philosophy of Secular Humanism
  • There Is No God God Does Not Exist.
  • Humans Are The Highest Form Of Life.
  • Humans Can Should Control All Aspects Of Their
Lives. (Therefore No One Has The Right To
Control Our Thinking Or Our Actions.)

46
Humanists Biggest Problem
  • Removal Of God Also Removes The Basis For
    Morality.
  • Without Basic Morality Society Would Be In
    Chaos.
  • A Substitute Is Needed.
  • So gt

47
The Substitute for God Given Morality
  • Whatever is best for the State.
  • Whatever is best for Society at large.
  • Whatever your conception of love moves you to do.
  • Whatever makes the most human beings happy.

48
Consequences of Secular Humanism
  • There is no sin.
  • The criminal is not guilty and in need of
    punishment he needs understanding and
    help.
  • Teaching our children the concept of sin
amounts to child abuse because we hurt their
psyche by making him feel guilty over his
    mistakes.

49
The General Population Does Not YET Accept The
Full Theory
  • So teach the young values clarification
destroy all ideas of right wrong.
  • Replace the concept of right wrong with
ideas of ethics whatever is right for
    society.
  • Teach values in our schools. We rejoice, not
recognizing that the values being taught are in
direct opposition to the values taught in the
    Bible. (Illustration Returned Billfold)

50
Since Humanists Think There Is No God
  • Therefore the Bible is not Gods word.
  • The Bible is way out-of-date.
  • The Bible is full of superstitions handed down
    by uneducated forebears.
  • Harmful to be used as a guide for living.
  • The Bible is an interesting bit of literature
giving insight as to how primitive- man
    thought.

51
Humanists Realize That The Masses Are Not
Ready To Give Up Religion
  • They recognize that people are happiest when
    united in organizations.
  • Satan loves for people to engage in religion
(as long as its false / vain does not conform
to Gods rules) Therefore no attempt to stop
    it.
  • It soothes the public to feel that someone loves
    them!

52
One Consequence Of This Type Of Religion
  • Young men attend seminaries to become
    denominational preachers.
  • They are taught that Noah is a lovely myth.
  • That Jesus was a man out-of-step with His
generation a victim of His own teaching.
  • Taught that life here is most important.
  • So gt

53
These Young Men Leave Their Seminaries
  • Fall into the Humanists (Satans) trap.
  • Return home filled with a zeal to clean up the
ghettos, to provide for the homeless, to make
their people love each other, and to provide
whatever entertainment will make their people
    the happiest.

54
(2Co 1113-15) For such men are false apostles,
deceitful workers, disguising themselves as
apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan
disguises himself as an angel of light.
Therefore it is not surprising if his servants
also disguise themselves as servants of
righteousness, whose end will be according to
their deeds.
55
(Review) A Humanists View Of Religion
  • God is dead (does not exist).
  • But the masses of people are not ready to give up
    religion.
  • So, let them have their religion, but take God
    out of the picture.
  • Turn all emphasis to life on this earth, because
    that is all there is.

  • 2Ti 41-4 I solemnly charge you in the presence
of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the
living and the dead, and by His appearing and His
kingdom preach the word be ready in season and
out of season reprove, rebuke, exhort, with
great patience and instruction. For the time
will come when they will not endure sound
doctrine but wanting to have their ears tickled,
they will accumulate for themselves teachers in
accordance to their own desires, and will turn
away their ears from the truth and will turn
    aside to myths.

  • Rom 159 and for the Gentiles to glorify God for
His mercy as it is written, "THEREFORE I WILL
GIVE PRAISE TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES, AND I WILL
    SING TO YOUR NAME."
  • 1Co 1415 What is the outcome then? I will pray
with the spirit and I will pray with the mind
also I will sing with the spirit and I will sing
    with the mind also.
  • Heb 212 saying, "I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO
MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I
    WILL SING YOUR PRAISE."

62
  • James 513 Is anyone among you suffering? Then
he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing
    praises.
  • Col 316 Let the word of Christ richly dwell
within you, with all wisdom teaching and

Relevant Teaching
67
Feeding The 5,000
  • The Bible tells the story to give proof that
Jesus was (and is) the Divine Son of God.
  • The Humanist says that your child will not like
the story if you tell it that way. You must make
it relevant. Tell of sharing INSTEAD.
  • Therefore we abandon the divine lesson of the
deity of Jesus and teach sharing. After all,
thats what the experts say to do.

68
The Story of Noah
  • He built a boat to escape a flood he saved two
of all kinds of animals on board the ark.
  • We spend the rest of the period having a
    pictorial zoo.
  • The children have fun like the story of Noah.
Not because they learned about a great man of
faith, but because they could play with all the
    animals.
  • The Humanist says the story of Noah is not
relevant because it happened so long ago.

69
Is It Not Relevant To Learn
  • That Noah was a man who listened to Gods
instructions and obeyed them even when they did
not seem to make sense? (A man of faith)
  • That Noah continued to work even though he could
not convince his neighbors that his warnings of
impending doom were true (1 Pet 319f)?
  • That God would not have been pleased with him if
he had not built the ark exactly according to
    Gods plan?

70
Peter Used The Story Of Noah
  • To teach the relevant story that God will come
in judgment against the wicked that God keeps
    His promises (2 Pet 32f)
  • To show that God can punish the wicked and save
the righteous at the same time never get
confused over which is which (2 Pet 24f)
  • If we teach these lessons, then we know that we
are teaching lessons that the Holy Spirit
thought were important because those are the
    lessons that are revealed !

71
But The Humanist Doesnt Believe
  • God really sent a flood.
  • God will really come again in a final judgment.
  • So they say
  • Children will not like the story unless we look
at all the animals. (We see their pretty
pictures of the Ark and we fall into Satans
    trap!)

72
The Story Of Balaam
  • (Nu 22-24) Instead of teaching about a man who
tried to get around Gods will after knowing
    what God wanted
  • We teach that Balaam was sorry that he
    mistreated his donkey.
  • The lesson is that we should treat our pets
kindly. The take-home sheet is a drawing of a
    child feeding a kitten !
  • Balaams story is a powerful lesson about a man
    in rebellion against God !

73
Our Modern Children, Who Are Growing Up
Resenting Authority, Desperately Need
  • To hear Gods intended message regarding Balaam.
  • The lesson When God Speaks, You Obey, Even When
You Dont Like Or Understand Gods Directives.

74
(Judges 210) and there arose another
generation after them who did not know the LORD,
nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.
75
World Headquarters of Secular Humanism (???)
- Satan -
  • (Eph 612) For our struggle is not against
flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the powers, against the world forces of this
darkness, against the spiritual forces of
    wickedness in the heavenly places.

76
  • (2Co 1113-15) For such men are false apostles,
