Before each student gets onto the bus the
following items must be checked
  • Brakes
  • Proper posture with the hips all the way back in
    the chair and centered on the seat.
  • All straps fastened snugly
  • the shoulder harness cross connection should
    be at the chest, not the neck,
  • the pelvic belt to be below the stomach.
  • check under blankets and coats
  • shoe straps when present
  • Seat back must be securely attached to the
    frame.

Wheelchair Attachments
  • The padded seat and back MUST be attached
    properly to the frame of the chair.
  • Some attachment types include the crescent
    shaped clip on a hinge, or a simple lever.
  • The most common attachment type is the KNOB
    attachment. See the following illustrations of
    knob attachments.

Notify the wheelchair vendor if you are
  • Unable to fasten the seat and/or back to the
    frame of the wheelchair
  • Unable to get the brakes to stop the wheels from
    turning
  • Unable to fasten the belts or harnesses
  • Noticing other adjustments that need to be made
    to the chair
  • Noticing your child no longer fits properly in
    the chair
  • In need of the 6 to 12 month wheelchair check up
