  • Located 15 miles north of Seattle in Lynnwood,
    Washington.
  • In 2008-09
  • Enrolled 20,883 unduplicated student headcount.
  • Enrolled 4,231 students in distance learning
    courses.
  • International student enrollment was 1,468 from
    79 different countries.
  • Approximately 36 of our students are students of
    color-
  • Asian (17), Hispanic (12),
  • Black/African American (5),
  • American Indian/Alaskan Native (2).

Attitude and Spirit
  • Accreditation Report- 2008
  • The college is commended for its
    entrepreneurial spirit both in the credit and
    non-credit programs.  This dedication to
    innovation in responding to the needs of the
    community is evident in numerous programs, such
    as Materials Science, the Creative Retirement
    Institute and partnerships with Edmonds School
    District, Central Washington University and local
    business and industry.  It is notable that the
    college has been effective in procuring grants
    and other funds to diversify its offerings,
    support students and supplement operations.

Our Successes/Allied Health
  • Programs began in 2002 with a 125,000 grant from
    to buy equipment and develop curriculum for a
    patient care technician program and a pharmacy
    tech program . Received a High Demand Grant in
    2007-08 for 180,000. This is an annualized
    funding.
  • As of Fall,2009 we have the following allied
    health programs
  • LPN Program in partnership with Lake Washington
    Technical
  • College, Clinical Lab Technician, EKG Monitor
    Technician, Polysomnographic Technician
    partnership with Highline Community College,
    Pharmacy Technician and Patient Care Technician
    which includes CNA, Phlebotomy, EKG.

Our Successes/Allied Health cont.
  • Enrollment in Fall 2009 for all of the Allied
    Health Programs is 313 students and includes a
    specialized Integrated Basic Educational Skills
    Training (I-BEST) for 32 of students.
  • Partnerships with numerous hospitals, clinics,
    assisted living facilities, and pharmacies.
    Continuing relationship with our original
    community college partners.

Successes/Materials Science
  • Started with a NSF ATE grant in 2000 to help
    teachers in high schools and community colleges
    incorporate materials science modules into their
    curriculum/
  • In 2009
  • Two-year degree program in Materials Science
    Technology.
  • National NSF Resource Center in Materials
    Science (MatEd)
  • Center for Excellence for Aerospace and
    Advanced Materials and Manufacturing-120,000-170,
    000 annually
  • FAA Center of Excellence membership in the
    Advanced Materials for Aircraft Structures
    (AMTAS) and
  • Lead or partner in four other related NSF
    Grants.

  • Department of Labor Presidents High Growth
    Initiative- TRIAD 1 for 1.45 million for
    curriculum development and technology integration
  • Partner in a second through Community Based Jobs
    Initiative-TRIAD 2 for 2 million for student
    training vouchers and equipment.
  • Receipt of approximately 2.1 million in Federal
    Appropriations towards Materials Science
    curriculum development, equipment, outreach,
    personnel and facility renovation and
    improvement.
  • Contracts and Appropriations through the FAA
    Center of Excellence for over 1 million

  • Work toward a win-win.
  • Creating relationship is the foundation to any
    partnership.
  • There are no magic bullets- it is hard work
  • It really isnt about the , it is about the
    service to your community and your students
  • Dont worry about the gopher holes, just get
    out of them as quickly as possible.
  • Everything may not work according to plan, but
    most partners appreciate a responsive, problem
    solving, can-do attitude.
