Aotearoa - New Zealand
The NZ Basics
International acclaim New Zealand Sauvignon
Blanc is rated throughout the world as the
definitive benchmark style for this varietal. The
growing recognition for New Zealand Chardonnay,
Pinot Noir, Méthode Traditionelle sparkling
wines, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
blends is helping to further cement New Zealand's
position as a producer of world class
wines. Diverse styles New Zealand is a
country of contrasts with dense, native forest,
snow-capped mountains and spectacular coastline.
With wine growing regions spanning the latitudes
of 36 to 45 degrees and covering the length of
1000 miles (1,600km), grapes are grown in a vast
range of climates and soil types, producing a
diverse array of styles. The northern hemisphere
equivalent would run from Bordeaux (between the
latitudes of 44 and 46 degrees) down to southern
Spain. Temperate maritime climate New Zealand's
temperate, maritime climate has a strong
influence on the country's predominantly coastal
vineyards. The vines are warmed by strong, clear
sunlight during the day and cooled at night by
sea breezes. The long, slow ripening period helps
to retain the vibrant varietal flavours that make
New Zealand wine so distinctive. Ensuring the
future New Zealand's small population, distant
location and agricultural economy have earned the
country a 'clean, green' image. Visitors often
describe it as 'an unspoiled paradise'. New
Zealand's winemakers and grape growers are
determined to keep it this way. Innovative
practices in the vineyard and winery which
deliver quality in a sustainable and
environmental manner, ensure that New Zealand
meets a growing world demand for wines that have
been produced in a 'clean and green' fashion.

enhances the aromatics of the Pinot Gris and
Pinot Noir from this site. Condors Bend and

fertility. Our premium Chardonnay site and key
contributor to the Forrest Sauvignon

What do the wine critics say?
15
What The Media Say About Forrest..
John makes high-quality winemaking sound easy.
Its not..Hes justifiably proud of his new
label which has taken more than 15 years of
experimentation, a lot of self-sacrificeand a
little bit of luck. Bob Campbell MW on the John
Forrest Collection, Air New Zealand Magazine
From one of New Zealand's finest producers, this
is about as good as Marlborough sauvignon blanc
gets. They haven't messed around with oak or
malolactic or other technical frills this is the
pure sauvignon blanc flavour the world has come
to know and love. There are some confectionery
and faintly yeasty aromas over kiwi fruit,
gooseberry and lightly tropical aromas, while in
the mouth it has more depth and concentration
than most. It's crisp and alive juicy and well
balanced, with delicious texture and mouth-feel.
Fine, fragrant and invigorating. Drink young.
Huon Hooke - Wine of the week in Sydney Morning
Herald Nov 08
An absolute gem from Marlborough 9 per cent
alcohol and a thrilling combination of sweetness,
fruit and acidity makes this a memorable drink.
96/100 - Huon Hooke on the Botrytised Riesling
Named after Marlborough winemaker John Forrests
grandfather, this new top notch Marlborough wine
casts a new light on Sauvignon Blanc. Gourmet
Traveller Wine 94 points 5 stars
Ralph Kyte-Powell, Delicious Magazine"Dr. John
Forrest is one of New Zealands most
knowledgeable Sauvignon Blanc makers, and it
shows. A perfect partner for summer dishes with
Thai inspiration, this has passionfruit, citrus
and blackcurrant notes with some steely power. It
tastes more complex than most, and finishes with
mouth-watering zip."
The more I see of these wines, the more I am
impressed. Without a doubt the best dry 'Dry
Riesling' in New Zealand Sue Courtney, NZ Wine
Writer
