User Needs and Priorities
  • Survey to determine most important state
    information (publications, websites, databases)
  • Depository librarians

  • Additional librarians around the state
  • Survey will be posted on Project Website for
    widespread input
  • Different versions depending on participant
  • Participants can select publications from
    existing list and add additional suggestions
    (like FDLP survey)

Legacy Collection
  • Modeled after GPO
  • Should include the most important publications
    for long-term preservation
  • General Statutes of North Carolina
  • North Carolina Administrative Code
  • Preservation format, when feasible shall be in
    print
  • Some publication may be better kept in digital
    format
  • Survey research will help identify items to be
    part of legacy collection

Examine Library Tools ENCompass
  • Library shifted ILS to Voyager in 2002 and also
    purchased ENCompass
  • ENCompass used by State Archives for their online
    catalog
  • Provide access to digital publications through
    search tools
  • Z39.50 capabilities to allow access to multiple
    databases
  • Can use multiple metadata schemas, including GILS
  • Provides storage for digital collections or links
    to distributed collections
  • Will attend ENCompass training this summer/Fall
  • Addresses access and short-term preservation
    considerations

  • Access tool to digital state government
    information using Blue Angel search system
  • Upgrade Blue Angel search software this summer
  • Improve search interface
  • Currently providing access to all state
    government websites and to specialized indexes

    indexes and statistical information
  • Work with State Data Center to take advantage of
    Z39.50 search capabilities

    will help us transition to new set-up
  • Ingest the first step toward long-term
    preservation
