Title: DISSEMINATION OF DATA AND PRODUCTS TO WFOs

1
  • DISSEMINATION OF DATA AND PRODUCTS TO WFOs
  • Gary Jedlovec (NASA)
  • Jason Burks (NWS Huntsville)

2
EOS DIRECT BROADCAST DATA
  • SPoRT relies on EOS direct broadcast (DB) ground
stations for access to real-time MODIS, AIRS, and
    AMSR-E imagery
  • Univ. of Wisconsin and Univ. of S. Florida sites
  • latency to SPoRT is lt 30min from overpass time
  • some EOS products produced at DB site
  • SPoRT
  • subset data at DB site
  • reformat data/products
  • produce value added products
  • assessments
  • disseminate to NWS WFOs in SR
  • full resolution data in AWIPS
  • training

Timely data and products are critical to weather
applications!
3
DATA OBTAINED FROM DB SITES
  • Access EOS data via McIDAS ADDE and ftp servers
  • University of Wisconsin
  • MODIS imagery, some Level 2 products
  • AMSR-E imagery and Level 2 products
  • AIRS Level 1 data (all channels) and Level 2
    profiles
  • University of South Florida
  • MODIS imagery, Level 2 ocean products
  • Majority of products produced with EOS science
    team algorithms

4
DATA AND PRODUCTS TO WFOs
  • Dissemination of all SPoRT data via Local Data
Manager (LBM) by summer 2007 (via Southern Region
    office)

WFOs RECEIVING DATA
  • SPoRT
  • Huntsville (since 2/2003) all products
  • Birmingham (all MODIS SST)
  • Nashville (all MODIS SST)
  • Mobile (all MODIS plus AMSR-E)
  • Miami (all MODIS plus AMSR-E)
  • Great Falls (all MODIS SST)
  • Melbourne (aviation and polar TPW)
  • Fire locations to MT WFOs (Fall 2007)
  • Will provide 1-4km MODIS, aviation, and polar TPW
to all SR sites by Fall 2007, high resolution on
    a collaborative basis
  • Univ. Wisc.
  • 1-4km MODIS data to 10 Western and Central region
sites based on SPoRT paradigm (Spring 2007)
  • NRL - Monterey
  • desire to provide MODIS and DOD products to
local WFO and forecast centers (in N-AWIPS rather
    than via web)
  • NESDIS OSDPD
  • polar products (atmosphere and ocean) to forecast
    centers in N-AWIPS)

6
FUTURE PLANS
  • Provide relevant SPoRT data to regional offices
    for dissemination to WFOs
  • Continue work with other agencies on transition
of data to WFOs and forecast Centers
  • Work with AWIPS II team to facilitate the
dissemination of NPP/NPOESS data to WFOs
