DESPISED AND REJECTED OF MEN
  • Isa. 533, He was despised, and rejected of men
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief and
as one from whom men hide their face he was
despised and we esteemed him not.
  • Jn. 1248, He that rejecteth me, and receiveth
not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him the
word that I spake, the same shall judge him in
    the last day.
  • Jn. 111,12, He came unto his own, and they that
were his own received him not. 12 But as many
as received him, to them gave he the right to
become children of God, even to them that
    believe on his name.
  • HOW is he rejected? By WHOM / WHAT rejected?

3
HOW he is rejected
  • 1. His divinity rejected Lk. 135, And the
angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit
shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most
High shall overshadow thee wherefore also the
holy thing which is begotten shall be called the
    Son of God.
  • Lk. 322, and the Holy Spirit descended in a
bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice
came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son in
    thee I am well pleased.
  • Jn. 518,23, For this cause therefore the Jews
sought the more to kill him, because he not only
brake the sabbath, but also called God his own
Father, making himself equal with God ..

4
. 18 that all may honor the Son, even as they
honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son
honoreth not the Father that sent him.
  • By WHOM is his divinity rejected?
  • Modernists, Jews, infidels, Agnostics
  • 2 Pet. 21-3, But there arose false prophets
also among the people, as among you also there
shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring
in destructive heresies, denying even the Master
that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift
destruction. 2 And many shall follow their
lascivious doings by reason of whom the way of
the truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And in
covetousness shall they with feigned words make
merchandise of you whose sentence now from of
old lingereth not, and their destruction
    slumbereth not.

5
1 Jn. 222, Who is the liar but he that denieth
that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist,
even he that denieth the Father and the Son.
  • 2 Jn. 7-11, For many deceivers are gone forth
into the world, even they that confess not that
Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the
deceiver and the antichrist. 8 Look to
yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we
have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever goeth onward and abid-eth not in the
teaching of Christ, hath not God he that abideth
in the teaching, the same hath both the Father
and the Son. 10 If any one cometh unto you, and
bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into
your house, and give him no greeting 11 for
he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil
    works.

6
God is being humanized, and human reasoning is
being deified.
  • The supernatural must be rejected because it
does not comport with human reason and natural
    laws.
  • Mother earth Worship nature. Man must be
    subservient to our planet!
  • Place animal life (preservation, laws to
protect) above human life (abortion, euthanasia).
  • Strip Jesus Christ of his deity and thus make
him a mere man. Therefore, situation ethics
(which glorifies man and his perceived needs).

7
HOW is he rejected
  • 2. His authority is rejected
  • Matt. 2820, And Jesus came to them and spake
unto them, saying, All authority hath been given
unto me in heaven and on earth.
  • Jn. 1248, He that rejecteth me, and receiveth
not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him the
word that I spake, the same shall judge him in
    the last day.
  • Eph. 121,22, far above all rule, and authority,
and power, and dominion, and every name that is
named, not only in this world, but also in that
which is to come 22 and he put all things in
subjection under his feet, and gave him to be
head over all things to the church.

8
2. By WHOM and by WHAT is his authority rejected?
  • By Popes, councils, conferences, creeds, Koran,
Book of Mormon, and the like (human wisdom!)
  • Acts 2029, know that after my departing
grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not
sparing the flock 30 and from among your own
selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things,
to draw away the disciples after them.
  • 1 Cor. 46, Now these things, brethren, I have
in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for
your sakes that in us ye might learn not to go
beyond the things which are written.
  • Gal. 18, But though we, or an angel from
heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other
than that which we preached unto you, let him be
    anathema.

9
HOW he is rejected
  • 3. His name is rejected (Name who the person
    is)
  • Phil. 29-11, Wherefore also God highly exalted
him, and gave unto him the name which is above
every name 10 that in the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, of things in heaven and
things on earth and things under the earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
    Father.
  • Acts 1126, the disciples were called
    Christians first in Antioch.
  • Col. 317, And whatsoever ye do, in word or in
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.

10
3. By WHAT is his name rejected?
  • By sectarian names and designations
  • Rom. 74, Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were
made dead to the law through the body of Christ
that ye should be joined to another, even to
him who was raised from the dead, that we might
    bring forth fruit unto God.
  • Acts 411,12, He is the stone which was set at
nought of you the builders, which was made the
head of the corner. 12 And in none other is
there salvation for neither is there any other
name under heaven, that is given among men,
    wherein we must be saved.

11
1 Pet. 416, but if a man suffer as a
Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him
glorify God in this name.
  • God is not glorified, but rather mans own
wisdom is glorified when humanly devised names
are used in supposed service to God!
  • The Scriptures know nothing of hyphenated
    Christians (e.g., Baptist Christian, Methodist
Christian, Catholic Christian, or even Church of
    Christ Christian).
  • Denominationalism does not serve our Lord! It
stands in direct opposition to his prayer for
    unity (Jn. 17).

12
HOW he is rejected
  • 4. His church is rejected
  • Matt. 1618, And I also say unto thee, that
thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build
my church and the gates of Hades shall not
    prevail against it.
  • Acts 2028, Take heed unto yourselves, and to
all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made
you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which
he purchased with his own blood.
  • Eph. 523,24, For the husband is the head of
the wife, and Christ also is the head of the
church, being himself the saviour of the body.
24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so
let the wives also be to their husbands in
    everything.

13
4. By WHAT is his church rejected?
  • By man-made organizations, churches, isms
  • Matt. 158,9,13,14, This people honoreth me
with their lips But their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as
their doc-trines the precepts of men 13 But
he answered and said, Every plant which my
heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up.
14 Let them alone they are blind guides. And if
the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a
    pit.
  • Eph. 13, Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with
every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places
    in Christ.

14
Eph. 122,23, and he put all things in
subjection under his feet, and gave him to be
head over all things to the church, 23 which is
his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in
all.
  • Eph. 44-6, There is one body, and one
Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope
of your calling 5 one Lord, one faith, one
baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is
over all, and through all, and in all.
  • Christ has as many churches as he has bodies!
  • The Scriptures know nothing about the
invisible church or the mystical church.
  • Such are inventions of men!

15
HOW he is rejected
  • His gospel is rejected
  • Mk. 1615,16, And he said unto them, Go ye into
all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole
creation. 16 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved but he that disbelieveth shall be
    condemn-ed.
  • Rom. 116,17, For I am not ashamed of the
gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation
to every one that believeth to the Jew first,
and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is
revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto
faith as it is written, But the right-eous shall
    live by faith.

16
Gal. 16-8, I marvel that ye are so quickly
removing from him that called you in the grace of
Christ unto a different gospel 7 which is not
another gospel only there are some that trouble
you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, should
preach unto you any gospel other than that which
we preached unto you, let him be anathema.
  • 1 Pet. 417, For the time is come for
judgment to begin at the house of God and if it
begin first at us, what shall be the end of
them that obey not the gospel of God?

17
5. By WHAT is his gospel rejected?
  • By human doctrines by not holding fast the
    pattern of sound words.
  • Matt. 59, But in vain do they worship me,
Teach-ing as their doctrines the precepts of
    men.
  • Rev. 2218,19, I testify unto every man that
heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,
if any man shall add unto them, God shall add
unto him the plagues which are written in this
book 19 and if any man shall take away from
the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall
take away his part from the tree of life, and out
of the holy city, which are written in this book.

18
2 Tim. 113, Hold the pattern of sound words
which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love
which is in Christ Jesus.
  • Rom. 1617,18, Now I beseech you, brethren,
mark them that are causing the divisions and
occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine
which ye learned and turn away from them. 18
For they that are such serve not our Lord Christ,
but their own belly and by their smooth and fair
speech they beguile the hearts of the innocent.
  • 2 Jn. 9, Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not
in the teaching of Christ, hath not God he that
abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the
    Father and the Son.

19
HOW he is rejected
  • His worship is rejected.
  • Jn. 424, God is a Spirit and they that
worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
  • Acts 242, And they continued stedfastly in the
apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the
breaking of bread and the prayers.
  • Eph. 519, speaking one to another in psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making
melody with your heart to the Lord.

20
6. By WHAT is his worship rejected?
  • By social emphasis and pretense
  • By marketing techniques (Mega-churches)
  • By elevating emotion and self-gratification
  • By entertainment and comfort zone
  • Shall we seek what GOD wants, or what WE want
    to offer to God?
  • Jn. 423, But the hour cometh, and now is, when
the true worshippers shall worship the Father in
spirit and truth for such doth the Father seek
    to be his worshippers.
  • GODS preference, choice, likes, or OURS?

21
Matt. 23, seven times woe unto you, Jesus
said to the religious leaders of his day.
  • Col. 220-23, If ye died with Christ from the
rudi-ments of the world, why, as though living in
the world, do ye subject yourselves to
ordinances, 21 Handle not, nor taste, nor touch
22 (all which things are to perish with the
using), after the precepts and doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in
will-worship, and humility, and severity to the
body but are not of any value against the
    indulgence of the flesh.
  • Recluses, retreats, meditations, monastic life,
or-ders of nuns and priests, wearing black
    religious at-tire, solitude, celibacy, social
    service spirituality?

22
CONCLUSION Jesus, despised and rejected by men
  • His divinity rejected by Modernists, infidels,
    Jews
  • His authority rejected by Popes, councils,
creeds His name rejected by sectarian names and
    labels
  • His church rejected by man-made organizations
  • His gospel rejected by human doctrines
  • His worship rejected by social emphasis,
    entertain.
  • My job is not to be found among those who
    despise and reject the Lord!
  • I want nothing to do with them nor theirs!
  • It costs to be a Christian but the benefits are
eternal! The alternative is eternity in hell!
