Title: The Word Is Alive

1
The Word Is Alive
  • Rest of God
  • All through Chapter 4 we read of a New Sabbath
  • Heb 411, Let us, therefore, make every effort
to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by
    following their example of disobedience.
  • How do we make every effort- labor, diligence-
    to enter that rest?
  • Heb 412, For the word of God is living and
active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow it judges the thoughts and
    attitudes of the heart.

2
The Word is Always Fresh
  • In every age and every generation the word is
    alive and relevant.
  • College text books?
  • 2 Tim 316-17, All Scripture is God-breathed and
is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the man of God
may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
  • Matt 2435, Heaven and earth will pass away, but
my words will never pass away.

perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the
living and enduring word of God.

    end.
  • Jesus is Gods plan to save mankind
  • From Genesis 315- first prophecies of Christ to
John 11, In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14,
And the Word became flesh and dwelled among us.
  • From the begin God planned to save us and give us
    rest and life.
  • God knew we needed victory over death, so he sent
    His Son.
  • Jesus opened the door for us when he was
crucified, buried and rose on the third day.

because, when you received the word of God, which
you heard from us, you accepted it not as the
word of men, but as it actually is, the word of
God, which is at work in you who believe.
  • Is Gods working in us?

8
Its Sharp
  • Heb 412-13, Sharper than any double-edged
sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and
spirit, joints and marrow it judges the thoughts
and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all
creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is
uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to
    whom we must give account.
  • Paul- take the sword of the Spirit, which is the
    word of God (Eph).
  • This sword cuts us not our enemies

  • The Word makes us holy
  • Scalpel
  • Cuts deep to the heart and removes sin from our
    life.

9
Its Needed
  • Alive, Jesus, Active, Powerful and Sharp
  • But its none of this unless it is used
  • We need the Word
  • It is central to our spiritual lives and growth
  • We pay an extremely high price for neglecting the
    Word.
  • We need to

10
Believe the Word
  • John 668, Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to
whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal
    life.
  • There is no where else we can look to find the
    eternal answers.
  • Accept the Bible for what it is Divinely
    Inspired, infallible, inerrant, all-sufficient,
    perfect word of God.

11
Study the Word
  • Apollos- mighty in the scriptures.
  • Be devoted to study
  • Read it
  • 2 Tim 215, Do your best to present yourself to
God as one approved, a workman who does not need
to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word
    of truth.
  • High School History Class
  • Study, write it on our hearts, know it thoroughly

12
Obey It
  • We must obey the Word
  • Obedience is the ultimate response to Gods Word
  • Just knowing it is not enough- Knowledge is not
    action
  • Gods commands are not optional

13
Hold the Word High
  • Rom 116-17, I am not ashamed of the gospel,
because it is the power of God for the salvation
of everyone who believes first for the Jew, then
for the Gentile. For in the gospel a
righteousness from God is revealed, a
righteousness that is by faith from first to
last, just as it is written The righteous will
    live by faith.
  • If the Word truly changes us, how can we be
    ashamed of it?
  • The Word of God is Alive, Energized, Active,
Sharp, It Convicts, Gives us hope and Strength,
Joy and Peace, Salvation and Rest
  • Is the Word of God working in your life?
