2PROJECT PROGRAMME FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY AND
THE RELIABILITY OF THE WATER AND SEWAGE
INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE CITY OF KRAKÓW
The Project will be implemented in two stages.
STAGE 1
- Putting the sewage system in the vicinity of
Borek Falecki in order through separating the
Urwisko stream. - Construction of a canal reducing the load on the
B Collector in Nowa Huta. - Renovation of the sewage system of the City of
Kraków. - Construction of sanitary sewage system in the
eastern regions of the City of Kraków (Nowa Huta
District).
3SEQUENCE OF ACTIVITIES
- December 12, 2003 submitting a Card of
Potential Investment for the following
applications in the Voivodship Fund for
Environmental Protection and Water Management - Improving the quality and the reliability of
water supply in the City of Kraków - Extension and modernisation of the sewage
infrastructure of the City of Kraków - June 25, 2004 measure Extension and
modernisation of the sewage infrastructure of the
City of Kraków was approved by the Minister of
Environment for preparation of the Application to
the Cohesion Fund. - March 3, 2005 the Minister of the Environment
approved the extension and the change of name
Project Programme for improving the quality and
reliability of the water and sewage
infrastructure of the City of Kraków - January 27, 2005 submitting the Application and
the Feasibility Study referring to Stage I for
verification to the Voivodship Fund for
Environmental Protection and Water Management
(WFOSiGW) - June 2005 last stage of approvals and
verifications of the Application and the
Feasibility Study. -

7- Preparation for implementation and obtained

regarding exemption from the obligation to
prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment

pursuant to the Red FIDIC contract conditions.

the obligation to prepare the Environmental
Impact Assessment Report (EIA) May 2003.
- It is assumed that the task will be implemented
pursuant to the Red FIDIC contract conditions.

11- Preparation for implementation
- Renovation of the sewage system by means of
non-excavation method does not require obtaining
the decision on the localisation of a public
purpose investment (ULI CP) and development
consent. - The investment will be implemented as
refurbishment, therefore it will not have any
significant negative impact on the environment,
pursuant to the provision of Point 13, Annex II
to Directive 91/11/EC. In relation with the above
the investment is not subject to the EIA
procedure. - Selection for the renovation works was carried
out on the basis of inspecting the sewage system
by televised method.
- It is assumed that the task will be implemented
pursuant to the Yellow FIDIC contract
conditions.
12- Implementation premises
- Lack of sewage system in the eastern
regions of the City of Kraków (Nowa Huta
district) results in - increase of pollution of the natural
environment - barrier for urban development of this region
- reduced comfort of life.
- Objective and results
- Connecting new areas to the municipal sewage
system. - Material scope of the task applied for in
Stage I comprises construction of - 17.5 km of sewage network
- 5 pumping stations.
13- Construction of the sewage system was divided
into three stages applied for in the subsequent
phases of the project, i.e. - Stage I implementation by 2009 applied
for in Stage I, - Stage II implementation by 2011 applied
for in Stage II, - Stage III implementation by 2013
application will be submitted in the future. - The following housing estates in the Nowa Huta
District are included within the scope of the
task Wegrzynowice, Wrózenice, Koscielniki,
Ruszcza, Wycieze Zachód, Wycieze Wschód, Branice,
Przylasek Rusiecki, Wolica, Pleszów, Chalupki.
- Execution of the investment will assure
collection of sewage from 6750 inhabitants of
Kraków. At the same time will allow for
transferring the sewage from the adjoining
communes to the Kujawy STP - Igolomia Wawrzenczyce 8350 inhabitants
- Kocmyrzów Luborzyca 5856 inhabitants.

- It is assumed that the task will be implemented

15SCHEDULE OF TENDERS AND WORKS
- Preparation of Tender Materials for Contract
Engineers, who will be preparing Tender
Materials for Works in the course of
preparation - Completion of the Tender Procedure and
selection of the Contract Engineer 1st quarter
of 2006 - Completion of the Tender Procedure and
selection of the Contractor 3rd quarter of
2007 - Completion of implementation of works 3rd
quarter of III 2009 - Investment settlement 4th quarter of 2009.

19PROJECT DURABILITY
- All of the scheduled investment are treated as
important elements of the municipal economy and
environmental protection, which will serve for a
number of years. It is expected that the executed
or modernised elements will have durability
complying with the existing world standards in
this respect. All facilities implemented within
the scope of the investment will be accepted for
operation by MPWiK S.A. and will constitute
integral elements of the sewage system in Kraków.
The executed project will contribute to
environmental protection is a significant degree.
The conditions of sewage collection and the
operation of the sewage treatment plants in
Kraków will be improved.
20Manner of filing applications to the European
Commission for co-financing of tasks from the
Cohesion Fund
- August 12. 2005 the Ministry of Economy and
Labour sent the application to the European
Commission - August 17, 2005 European Commission confirmed
the reception of the application and provided it
with an identification code (CCI) 2005PL16CPE009 - September 6, 2005 the European Commission
determined the date for the eligibility of
expenses if the co-financing was obtained.
