Title: ECNIS Workshop on Biomarkers and Environmental Health Biomonitoring,
1- ECNIS Workshop on Biomarkers and Environmental
Health Biomonitoring, - Luxembourg, 29/11/2006
- Presentation to
- Implementation Group meeting, Paris 6/9/2006
Maria Botsivali National Hellenic Research
Foundation, Athens Communication Officer, ECNIS
NoE
2ECNIS Environmental Cancer Risk,Nutrition and
Individual Susceptibility Network of
Excellence, FP6Project started May 1st 2005
3Main objective of ECNIS
- To establish a viable European research network
- a) to conduct world-class research on
environmental - cancer and its modulation by diet and individual
susceptibility, - b) promote cancer prevention through the
dissemination of scientific knowledge to
stakeholders (general public, policy makers,
industry, NGOs, health physicians etc)
424 partners from 13 European countries,
including some of the top European cancer
research centres
Coordinator Prof. K. Rydzynski, Nofer Institute
of Occupational Medicine, Lodz, Poland
5- Main research activity of ECNIS focused on
biomarkers and their application in population
studies (molecular epidemiology) - Research Tasks
- 1. Development and validation of biomarkers of
carcinogen exposure and early effects - 2. Development and validation of biomarkers of
susceptibility - 3. Implementation of biomarker technology in
cancer prevention - 4. Mechanisms of modulation of cancer by dietary
factors - 5. Mechanistic research to support cancer risk
assessment
6- Workshop organised in the context of ECNIS
Dissemination to Stakeholders activity - Objectives
- a) To introduce ECNIS NoE and its activities in
the area of biomarkers in environmental
carcinogenesis research - b) To provide information on state of science of
biomarkers and their relevance to environmental
health research and policy formulation
implementation - Target audience SCALE Consultative Forum
- Place/date Luxembourg, 29/11/2006 (afternoon)
