The Cruel Facts
  • Leukemia is now the number one child-killing
    disease in China
  • More than 40,000 new leukemia cases are diagnosed
    annually
  • Every year more than 40,000 patients die
  • Half are children and in many cases they are the
    ONLY child under Chinas 1-child policy

Li Meng Jia (Jia Jia)
  • Poor girl from Beijing, 2 ½ years old
  • Father, Li Yan from Beijing mother, Meng Qing
    Qin from a small village in Hebei province
  • Jia Jia fell ill April this year. She was
    initially misdiagnosed
  • She has a rare form of Leukemia acute
    megakaryocytic leukemia (M7)

Current Situation
  • Jia Jia has received three rounds of chemo
    therapy in Peking University First Hospital.
  • Currently undergoing 4th round of 8-day chemo
    therapy to destroy remaining leukemic cells in
    preparation for the needed transplant.

We are now at the critical stage
  • Jia Jia needs a cordblood stem cell transplant
    soon after the final chemo therapy
  • The hospital has already located a matching donor
    for cordblood stem cells
  • Success rate Jia Jia has more than a 50 chance
    if she can receive this critical transplant but
    is unlikely to survive on chemo therapy alone.

Financial hardship
  • Jia Jias indigent parents have so far spent over
    RMB 100,000 and have no way to find more
  • Fee for transplant, incl. hospitalization for 2-3
    months RMB 300,000
  • Complications are likely to occur but are hard to
    predict.
