What is SECME?
  • SECME is a strategic alliance that renews and
    strengthens the professional capacity of K-12
    educators. SECME motivates and mentors students,
    and empowers parents so that all students can
    learn and achieve at higher levels.

SECME History
  • SECME was established in 1975 by the Engineering
    Deans at seven Southeastern universities
    Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, South Carolina,
    Tennessee, Tennessee State, and Tuskegee. Today
    that alliance extends to schools, universities,
    science- and technology-based business and
    industry, and public and private agencies in 18
    states (from New York to Arizona), the District
    of Columbia, Uganda, and Grand Bahamas.

MCPSS-Mission
SECMEs mission is to increase the pool of
historically under-represented, geographically
under-served, and differently abled students who
will be prepared to enter and complete
post-secondary studies in science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM), thus creating
a diverse and globally competitive workforce.

SECME Early College High
  • SECME is one of eight Gates-designated
    intermediaries that will share these funds to
    develop or redesign Early College High
    SchoolsSmall Schools with Accelerated Paths in
    communities across the U.S. This task directly
    supports and draws on SECMEs legacy as a premier
    pre-college alliance. SECME Early College High
    Schools are a new strategy designed to accomplish
    the traditional SECME .

Empowering Parents Program -(EP)2
  • To strengthen and enhance parental involvement,
    SECMEs (EP)² program conducts workshops for
    parent to provide them with concrete activities
    and suggestions for empowering parents. Its goal
    is to increase the ability of parents to assist
    their children with career and educational
    choices. In addition, it will provide
    opportunities for parents to obtain education and
    technology training and to network and partner
    with their schools and community.

SECME is teacher centered. Its primary
business always has been to renew, revitalize,
and retool teachers, in mind and spirit, through
its Summer Institutes and year-round staff
development.
