Introduction
  • Rationalisation of current legislative framework
    for external Community actions six financial
    instruments.
  • A thematic programme on environment and
    sustainable management of natural resources
    including energy will be created within this new
    structure.
  • The programme will address the environmental
    dimension of development, and promote EU
    environmental and energy policies abroad.
  • The thematic programme will offer distinctive
    added value, and complement geographical
    programmes.

  • Globalisation increases the need to treat
    environmental issues in an international context.

    processes and conventions.

    preventing environmental degradation.

  • Thematic approach helps to foster a coordinated,
    coherent and effective EU approach to the
    environmental dimension of its external actions
  • focus on global priorities/GPGs, including
    political visibility in support of high-profile
    priorities EUWI, EUEI, FLEGT,etc
  • fuller role EU in international organisations,
    environmental initiatives, processes and
    partnerships, operational support to MEAs etc
  • funding transboundary, interregional and global
    initiatives, support policy dialogues at
    regional, inter-regional and global level.
