Computers Negatively effecting the classroom
  • By
  • Lee Levine
  • Tracy Wasserman
  • Lauren Bohli
  • Kandis Sandlin

2
Reasons
  • students might not have all the skills they need
    to use certain programs
  • - Waste time teaching how to use program instead
of using the program to learn
  • teacher knowledge is taken for granted
  • - When asked to teach with computer programs the
teacher may not know how to use it themselves
  • computers cost a lot of money
  • - If used incorrectly can be a waste of money

3
STUDY
  • 30 teachers with average knowledge to find
  • - how much they used computers
  • - issues dealing with computers
  • - obstacles they had to overcome
  • It was found that
  • students would not have enough time at the
computers to completely understand the lesson
  • Outdated programs would lead to delays
  • technical difficulties students had with the
    computers
  • Teacher dont fully understand the role computers
    need to play

4
Students Worst Nightmare
  • Teachers really dont know as much as they say
  • Simple tasks are done for them besides learning
    them
  • Improves speed of completion, doesnt help with
    quality of work
  • Research has shown that students who participate
in a technology based curriculum have lower
    achievement levels
  • Computers cant be used as a teaching device they
    should just be an aid
  • Students are not making sense of the knowledge
computers are spitting out because they have not
been taught how to understand it
  • No research has been truly shown that computers
are better than textbook lessons, even though
3.5 billion is spent per yr

5
Proper Stages
  • Entry
  • Entering computers into classroom (teachers are
    apprehensive)
  • Adoption
  • Blending technology into classroom practices
  • Adaptation
  • Thoroughly used in everyday class
  • Invention
  • Students experiment with programs and teachers
    assign web-based projects
