Accreditation Overview
  • Glendale Community College has started preparing
    for its upcoming Accreditation visit in 2012.
  • This presentation covers the following

What is Accreditation?
  • Accreditation is an external certification of the
    quality and integrity of an educational program
    or institution.
  • It is also an internal critical self-analysis
    leading to improvement in quality.
  • The organization is evaluated based on its
    mission, and the accrediting agencys standards
    and criteria.

Who accredits GCC?
  • GCC is accredited by the Higher Learning
    Commission, a division of the North Central
    Association one of six regional accrediting
    organizations.
  • For more details go to www.ncahlc.org
  • GCC follows the traditional program, called
    Program to Evaluate and Advance Quality (PEAQ),
    to maintain its accredited status, every ten
    years.
  • Process
  • Visit by Consultant Evaluators who are our peers
  • Consultants offer advice to help us improve where
    needed
  • GCC can ask for advice where we feel the need

  • Twenty-one core components address the aspects
    of the criteria
  • five components for criterion one
  • four each for criterion two through five
  • Numerous examples of evidence
  • illustrations of how each of the criterion and
    core components are met
  • Note Self-Study report is similar to a book with
    chapters (5 criteria), sections (21 components),
    and content (relevant evidence).

Self-Study
  • It is a process of critical self-evaluation
  • A tremendous and exciting opportunity for GCC to
    evaluate where we have been, where we are
    currently, and where we want to go in the future.
    This really is a self-study in that sense.
  • Involvement from the entire campus including
    students and community
  • Leadership from Steering Committee, Five Criteria
    Committees and various sub-committees

Where does Self-Study fit in the process?
  • Set standards (with accrediting agency)
  • Self-Study (to measure performance vis-à-vis
    standards)..This is where GCC is right now
  • Approximately two years and culminates with a
    report
  • On-site evaluation (at the end of Self-Study to
    gauge how well standards are being met)
  • Publication (in the accredited list)
  • Monitoring (ongoing through next evaluation)
  • Re-evaluation
