Paper Drives are Back!Did You Know Paper is a
Valuable Resource?WE BUY SCRAP PAPER!
  • Rock-Tenn Recycling
  • St. Paul, MN
  • 100 Years of Recycling in Minnesota

2
What is a Paper Drive?
  • Volunteer groups raising money for projects by
collecting a wide variety of paper from
    neighbor-hoods.
  • Great for community service and environmental
    stewardship projects.
  • Nothing to sell
  • No front end expenses.
  • No inventory
  • Make 270 or more for a weekend paper drive. Plan
4 each year and make 1,000.

3
History of Paper Drives
  • Started in 1920s as a way to collect residential
newspaper for recycling. We claim that we
invented the paper drive as a way to divert old
newspapers out of the waste stream and help the
    environment.
  • We have several successful groups who have been
conducting continuous paper drives since 1988 and
have earned thousands of dollars over the years
to pay for their program activities.

4
Getting Started
  • Select a weekend date 60-90 days in advance.
  • Call Rock-Tenn to book the date and reserve a
    collection trailer or ground container.
  • Plan to hold the event at a high-traffic parking
lot such as a school, church, main street, etc.
  • Recruit enthusiastic volunteers and use Rock-Tenn
posters and Neighborhood Alerts! to inform your
whole neighborhood about the drive and why it is
important to save paper for your organization
    fundraiser.

5
Set a Goal--Stack Up Success Profits, too!
  • Make a plan.
  • Energize your volunteers.
  • Put up posters in local businesses, churches and
    libraries, etc.
  • Put a press release in the local shopper
  • Canvass neighborhoods and put Neighborhood
    Alerts! on doors.
  • Use public service announcements on local cable
    TV.
  • Have fun!

6
What papers can be collected? All of these used
papers are worth saving for recyclingand
earning extra money!!

7
Get the Word Out
  • Get the word out and then remind them 3 more
    times.
  • The goal is to get people to save paper for your
    paper drive.
  • Put a Hot Line phone number on posters for
questions and for volunteers to pick up paper.
  • Build a marketing campaign to reach the members
of your community. Let them know what you plan to
do with your earnings so they will feel good
about saving paper for you and about supporting
    your organization.
