1Best Neighbourhood Design AwardRebuilding
Beirut Corner and Murder Mile
2There were 212 awful, cold, damp concrete homes
in 3 long terraces
3 How many people can say they designed and
built their own home and estate?
4Its not just bricks and mortar, the community
owns it with a legacy of a fabulous community
spirit
5Better than a private estate, youd never know
it was rented
6The houses at different angles makes it look
interesting and the traffic calming and 20mph
speed limit makes it safe
7We chose which home we wanted and even the
colour and style of our front door
8I chose my kitchen, tiles, bathroom and even my
gas fire
9Its accessible for the disabled, all steep steps
have gone and weve 2 private parking spaces
10We call the 5-bedroom wheelchair users bungalow
the village hall!
11People take pride in their gardens now and have
good fences front and back
12Were the first estate in Europe to have fire
sprinklers theyve saved 2 homes already! The
Chief Fire Officer for Wiltshire Nick Ross lent
his support
13The Lottery and other partners funding provided
an safe toddlers play area and theres also a
park like a village green
14We just love the BMX bike track
15The resource centre makes a difference
16We influenced a neighbouring developer to
provide a community centre
17Our PCSO said, It had a really bad reputation
but its completely changed
18We dont feel like we live in the most deprived
ward in Wiltshire
19Weve won awards from the Town Council 10
years running for community work and the
enhancement award(note Selwood Housing used to
be called West Wiltshire Housing Society)
