2TurkStat - ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE
- CENTRAL ORGANISATION
- Central Organization comprises main service
units, advisory units and auxiliary service
units. Data processing and dissemination are
conducted in the central office. - REGIONAL ORGANISATION
- In the context of national-scale censuses and
surveys, the regional organisation of TurkStat is
in charge of compiling, controlling, data entry
and transferring to the head office. - TurkStat has 26 regional offices.

- In the Central Office, there are 11 departments
each of them consisting of several groups and
various teams under these groups. - Environment Statistics Group is structured under
the Agriculture and Environment Statistics

4OVERVIEW
- Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has been
dealing with the environmental statistics
according to the framework of the OECD core set
of environmental data and indicators since 1990.
All data produced in environmental statistics are
harmonized with OECD/EUROSTAT definitions and

5OVERVIEW
After Statistics Law of Turkey was enacted in
2005, Official Statistics Programme has been
prepared for 2007-2011. So programmed period
for the Turkish Statistical System has been
launched with the Official Statistics
Programme. Within the context of the Programme,
responsible and related institutions are defined,
data compilation methodology and the publication
periodicity/schedule of official statistics are
specified. Based on the program Annual National
Data Release Calendar is prepared and announced
on the web pages of all institutions involved in
the Programme.

9- AIR QUALITY STATISTICS
- Since 1990, sulphur dioxide (SO2) and
particulate matter (PM) data which are
periodically measured throughout Turkey and
transferred to TurkStat have been evaluated and
published in monthly, winter season and annual
press releases. - 1990- September 2007 (Ministry of Health)
- October 2007 onwards (Ministry of
Environment and Forestry)
10- GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION INVENTORY
- National greenhouse gas emissions are estimated
annually by using the IPCC (Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change) Guidelines and Good
Practice Guidance (GPG). - National Inventory Report (NIR) and Common
Reporting Format Reporter (CRFR) tables have been
prepared as a time series starting from 1990.
Uncertainty analysis, trend analysis and key
source categories have also been prepared by
TurkStat.
11- WATER AND WASTEWATER STATISTICS

networks and treatment plants, - number, type and capacity of water treatment

18SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INDICATORS
- TurkStat worked on Sustainable Development
Indicators first within the MEDSTAT-ENV project - In the scope of the project, 62 environment and
environment related indicators were exercised, of
which 29 SDI calculated - In 2006, studies for calculating SDIs for Turkey
based on Eurostat SDI list have been initiated.
And 58 out of 142 have been produced. And
selected indicators have been published as a
press releases.
