• How the true character of Satan was exposed at
  the cross of Christ

The Great Controversy

• The great controversy between Christ and Satan
  began in heaven when Lucifer, the highest created
  being, rebelled against God and became
  SatanEzekiel 2814, 15.
• His iniquity (bent to self) was to overthrow God
  and take His place in the universeIsaiah 1412-14

• Having deceived one third of the angelic hosts
  Satan waged war against Christ, His creator (John
  13).
• However, Christ and His angels were victorious
  and Satan and his angels were cast out of
  heavenRevelation 127-9.
• Being expelled from heaven, Satan decided to
  deceive Adam and Eve and take over this brand new
  earth and make it his domain. In this he was
  successfulLuke 45, 6.

• Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve Satan became
  the prince or ruler of this worldJohn 1430 2
  Corinthians 43, 4.
• Thus the great controversy between Christ and
  Satan was transferred from heaven to this earth
  at the Fall.
• Whether we know it or not, every human being is
  involved in this great controversy 1 John 519.

The beginning of Satans downfall

• Satans true character first began to be exposed
  when Christ, his arch enemy, came to this world
  to be Savior of mankind.
• Note how Satan attempted to kill Christ
• Matthew 21-18 (The babes in Bethlehem).
• Luke 48-11 (The 3rd temptation in the
  wilderness).
• John 1031 (Attempting to stone Christ again).
• In all these attempts Satan failed.
• Here is the reason whyJohn 730 820.

Satans Downfall

• The only way God could expose Satans true
  character was to remove His protection from His
  Son, Jesus Christ.
• This He did at GethsemaneLuke 2253.
• This made it possible for Satans hidden desire
  (from the beginning of his rebellion) to be
  exposed at the cross, once and for allJohn 844.

• Once Christ was in the hands of Satan, he chose
  for Him the most shameful and painful death man
  had ever invented, the crossJohn 196.
• Christ was willing to endure it all, not only to
  expose Satan as His murderer, but also to save
  humanity from the curse of the lawGalatians
  313 Hebrews 122.

• At the cross, Satan was exposed as the murderer
  of the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
• All sympathy for him from the unfallen angels and
  worlds was gone
• John 1231-33.
• The above also applies to all who accept Christ
  as their personal SaviorRevelation 1210, 11.

Application of this Truth

• 1. If the world under Satan hates us Christians
  it is because he hated Christ firstJohn 1518.
• 2. If your hour has not yet come, Satan or his
  angels cannot touch you. God is sovereignJohn
  730, 820.
• 3. Satan united the two great enemies of Christs
  day, the Jews and the Romans.
• He will unite the world against Gods people in
  the great tribulationRevelation 133, 4.

• 4. When the world under Satan has to make a
  choice between one of their own and the most
  innocent Christian, they will always release one
  of their own
• Acts 314, 15.
• 5. At the cross, mans unconscious sin was
  revealed, the enmity that exists between our
  sinful flesh and GodJeremiah 179, Romans 87.
