GMI aerosol simulation (613.3)

• GMI simulates the major aerosol components
  sulfate, black carbon, organic carbon, dust, and
  sea salt (and nitrate soon).
• Aerosols originating from fossil fuels are
  assumed to be internally mixed, as are aerosols
  from biomass burning. All other aerosols are
  externally mixed.
• Aerosol optical parameters are based on the
  publications IPCC 2001 Hess et al., 1998,
  DAmeida et al., 1991
• Shortwave radiation is calculated using a
  radiative transfer model developed by Chou and
  Suarez (1999).
• A coupling model of aerosol and trace gas is on
  the way.
