Attendance
  • Attendance at school is very important!
  • Call the office ph. 828-4315 in the morning if
    your child will not attend school that day.
  • Your child should be fever-free for 24 hours
    before he/she returns to school after an illness.

Back packs or School Bags
  • Please write your childs name on their back
    pack!
  • Back packs must be brought to school daily.
  • Please check back packs daily for notes, art
    projects, homework, etc,.
  • Have a set spot for keeping back pack in your
    home.

Classroom Rules
  • Listen
  • Follow all directions the first time they are
    given
  • Make good choices
  • Keep hands, feet, and all body parts to
    yourselves
  • Participate in all kindergarten activities

Homework
  • Homework will come home every Friday in your
    childs Homework Folder.
  • Homework is due back every Monday morning.
  • Homework should be completed neatly in PENCIL
    only.
  • PLEASE READ TO YOUR CHILD DAILY !!!!!!!!!!

Parent / Teacher Conferences Report Cards
  • Parent / Teacher Conferences will be held in
    November and February.
  • Written report cards will be given to you at the
    Parent / Teacher Conferences.
  • A final report card will be mailed home at the
    end of the school year.
  • Other conferences can be set up as needed.

Newsletters
  • Newsletters are sent home every Friday in your
    childs Homework Folder.
  • They contain current information about classroom
    activities and upcoming events.

Awards Assemblies
  • Will be held at the end of each quarter
  • Awards will be given for
  • ---completing the weekly homework neatly and
    turning it in every Monday
  • ---counting to 100 by 10s, 5s, 1s and even
    by 2s
  • ---being our Student of the Week
  • ---At-Home Reading Program

OUTERWEAR
  • Please make sure your childs jackets, coats,
    sweaters, shoes, boots, hats, and mittens are
    labeled with their name.
  • Please make sure your child comes dressed for the
    weather.
  • And PLEASE encourage your child to tie, zip or
    fasten clothes by themselves.

LANGUAGE ARTS
  • The Language Arts program that is used in my room
    consists of
  • Houghton Mifflin Reading Series
  • Frog Street Press Alphabet Series
  • Alphabet taught through Nursery Rhymes

  • During Language Arts, we will learn about
    different reading strategies and work on the
    following skills
  • Predicting
  • Making inferences
  • Comparing/contrasting
  • Rhyming words
  • Sight words
  • Categorizing
  • Beginning, middle end
  • Retelling the story

Our weekly study of letters will include the
following activities
  • letter bag activities where the children bring an
    item that starts with the targeted letter and
    give clues to the rest of the class to see if
    they can guess what the item is.
  • learning the sound that goes with the letter of
    the week, learning how to write the letter of the
    week, learning words that begin with end with
    the letter of the week.
  • learning a nursery rhyme that goes with the
    letter of the week

    goes along with our pocket chart letter of the

Math
  • During math there will be a lesson introducing a
    math concept / skill, a time to practice the
    skill as a class in small groups or
    individually a time to review, and a time to
    explore with new math concepts that will be
    taught in coming weeks.

Zero the Hero
  • Zero the Hero loves to count! He makes a special
    appearance in our classroom on every 10th of
    school!

On the 10th day of school, the children made a
10-day headband and a special Zero the Hero
necklace to wear on every 10th day of school!

SCIENCE
  • During the 2006 / 2007 school year, we will begin
    using Scott Foresman Science as our science
    curriculum. We will learn about Life Science
    Needs of Plants and Animals, Growing and
    Changing, Plants and Animals All Around, Earth
    Science Our Land, Water and Air, Weather and
    Seasons, Physical Science Matter, Heat and
    Light, How Things Move and Space and Technology
    Day and Night and How Things Work. During each
    unit we will learn songs and finger plays, learn
    science vocabulary, read stories, make
    hypothesis, make inferences, make predictions and
    do some hands-on experiments.
  • We will spend approximately 75 minutes
    per week on Science!

SOCIAL STUDIES
  • Our social studies curriculum is Social Studies
    Alive. We will use literature and experiential
    exercises whole group and working in pairs as
    we learn about ourselves, learn about our
    families at home, learn how to get along with
    others, learn how to solve problems with others,
    learn how to be a good helper at school, learn
    about things in our neighborhood, learn about the
    world, learn about how people live around the
    world and learn how to take care of our world. We
    will also spend some time learning about Careers
    / Community Helpers. Our culminating activity for
    this will be our Kindergarten Play called When We
    Grow Up! We will present our play to all our
    family members as well as to the other children
    in our school during early April!
  • We will spend approximately 75 minutes
    per week on Social Studies activities!
