Rationale of Hiring 20 Lead Scholars
  • The rationale of recruiting these lead scholars
    is to demonstrate the Universitys determination
    to regain its stature as a leading educational
    institution in the region.
  • These new lead scholars will be expected to
    contribute to both teaching and research, with
    the expectation that they will stimulate
    improvement and innovation in program areas.

  • Facilitate accreditation process of academic
    programs
  • Enhance academic programs in terms of curriculum,
    teaching methodology, implementation of new
    trends or technology
  • Participate in teaching on undergraduate
    post-graduate levels
  • Revitalize strategic vision for academic programs
    by helping to develop new or interdisciplinary
    programs.

RESEARCH ROLES
  • Collaborate with University colleagues to develop
    research objectives and participate in on-going
    research
  • Augment the dissemination of findings through
    presentations and publications
  • Develop bi-lateral connections with outstanding
    external institutions and centers
  • Strengthen connections with industry and society
    through engagement in research and consultation
    projects.

SERVICES ROLES
  • Conduct specialized training courses in relevant
    state of the art technologies or new trends
  • Participate in public workshops, seminars, and
    focused activities
  • Establish connections with external
    post-secondary institutions for various reasons.
  • Serve as a witness, a third party or an expert in
    specific subjects

  • Acclaim as a respected academic with
    international distinction in scholarship and
    teaching
  • An outstanding international reputation showing a
    strong record of professional achievements,
    (awards, etc..)
  • A strong involvement in programs accreditations
    and development
  • An exceptional record of scholarly endeavor
    evidenced by research projects and publications,
    etc..
  • An experience in partnering and interacting with
    industry, society or with other funding agencies
  • Experience in areas such as curriculum and
    inventive pedagogy development
  • Demonstrated academic leadership with a strong
    ability to motivate and encourage achievements.

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Step 1 Initial Screening Stage
  • Narrow the pool of candidates to a manageable
    number of applicants (approximately 5-10 per
    position).
  • Step 2 Second Screening Stage
  • Option 1 Conduct phone interviews with the
    candidates.
  • Option 2 Conduct phone interviews with the
    references listed by the candidate.
  • Option 3 Conduct interviews with other people
    who are associated with the candidates field,
    and current or previous academic institutions.

SELECTION PROCESS CONT.
  • Step 3 List of candidates should be limited to
    2-3 people who will be invited to come to campus
    for a visit to give
  • 1. A face-to-face interview with Hiring
    Committee.
  • 2. An academic presentation involving the
    candidates original scholarship on a topic.
  • 3. Optional A sample class before a group of
    students.
  • 4. Opportunities for formal and informal
    interaction with the University administration
    and faculty.
  • Step 4 A recommendation is made by the Hiring
    Committee to the QU upper administration.
