Service and Learning Project to Create Hats for
the Homeless.

Service Learning Hours
  • 41 Students participated, earning 391 service
    hours collectively for their donation of 90 hats
    to the Christian Shelter in Salisbury, Maryland

Main Objective for the Project
  • Students will utilize the manufacturing process
    and principles of continuous improvement in order
    to produce a product that meets the needs of a
    family member.

Goals of the Project
  • Students will understand that skills in the
    textile construction area enable a person to have
    more choice and expertise in the following areas
    clothing textile selection, clothing textile
    care, clothing textile repair, obtaining
    textile items of specific and unique description
    as well as career planning.
  • Students will understand that effective use of
    resources (including materials, time, skills and
    technology) can provide service to others.

  • Late at night I think of my fears
    And weep away at all of
    my tears.
  • I sit and think why am I so scared,
  • I say its because nobody even cared.
  • I hate creeping around like a mouse,
  • when really all I want is a house.

OUR FIRST DAY
  • Our HAT PROJECT started out fairly well. Teams
    worked efficiently to start work on the hats,
    with Mrs. Doughtys help, of course.
