ECT-A status 13 Nov 06, previous LHCC
  • New AFT design accepted
  • Thermal shield installation completed at both
    sides
  • Stay tube shields installed
  • Superinsulation installation in progress
  • The closing of end plates from both sides in next
    3 weeks
  • Presently on-time for starting vacuum tightness
    test before 22 Dec
  • Schedule is OK for 80K test in Feb/March 07
  • Installation in cavern in Apr-May

ECT-A completed ready for transport
  • Vessel closed 22 Dec 06
  • New adjustable AFT rods implemented
  • Released from cantilever
  • Pumped vacuum over X-mass
  • He-Leak tested and is OK
  • Turret with current leads and cryogenic ports
    completed
  • Top platforms installed
  • Moved to center of hall, ready for pick-up by the
    transport trailer (next Monday)
  • Transport on 5-6 Febr

End Cap Toroid cold test _at_80K
  • Next is 300-80K thermal cycling test in front of
    B180, when connected to a 10kW N2/He pre-cooler
  • Test lasts for 7 weeks, if OK then ready for
    point 1, toroid stored during April/May,
    transport to point 1 in 1st week June

ECT-C Cold mass assembly completed
  • Mechanical assembly complete
  • Cooling circuits welded and fully tested
  • Superconductor junctions done
  • Instrumentation and 6K-shields in progress and
    nearly complete
  • Needs to be ready by middle of Febr to allow
    insertion in vessel
  • Next step has to wait for ECT-A transport

Next steps
  • ECT-A goes out through the door on its way to the
    80K test
  • ECT-C cold mass moves to center and vessel to
    rails right side
  • Open the vessel and put left end plate on
    cantilever
  • Move cold mass on cantilever, open vessel right
    side
  • Move vessel over cold mass on cantilever and
    start integration works on tie rods, shields,
    MLI, turret etc as done for ECT-A
  • When finished by middle of May, go out for 80K
    test as well.

Service turret for ECT-C
  • Pre-assembly of service turret (connections to
    vacuum, Helium coolant and current) in progress
    in H180
  • Next is installation on top op ECT-C in
  • B191 in March

  • Common cooling down and test in Sep-Oct
  • Full ECT test in Nov and full magnet system test
    with BT in Dec
  • Schedule compatible with ATLAS installation
