Title: Temperature and Kinetic Energy

1
Temperature and Kinetic Energy

2
The Temperature!!!
  • A measure of the average kinetic energy of all
the particles in an object is the temperature.

3
The Speed of Particles!!!
  • If a liquid has a high temperature, such as hot
cocoa, the particles in the liquid are moving
faster, and have a high average of kinetic energy.

4
The speed of particles part II !!!
  • If a drink has a low temperature, such as a
smoothie, the particles move slower and have a
    lower average of kinetic energy.

5
WHY?
  • The particles in a hot liquid move faster because
the heat gives the liquid extra energy.
  • For example If your hands are cold, you could
add energy to your hands by putting them over a
hot stove or by a fire. The added energy makes
the particles in your hands move faster.

6
The Particles in a Doorknob!!!
  • Particles in a metal doorknob do not move as fast
as particles in air. However, the particles in a
doorknob have more mass and they can have the
same amount of kinetic energy as particles in air.

7
Particles in a Bowl!!!
  • If you set a hot bowl on a table for awhile,
particles in the bowl will slow down, due to
collisions with particles in the air and on the
table. The temperature of the bowl decreases and
    it becomes cooler.

This is the end!!!
  • Thanks for watching!!!
