Community Learning Resource Centre Requirements
  • To be big
  • To be open and accessible to all students and

residents of the Parliamentary Wards of Cobholm
    and Litchfield
  • To be completely DDA and SENDA compliant

It is an old 1970s building
  • Design factors inherent in the building
  • The structure is modular
  • The roof is flat
  • The corridor goes right through the middle of the
    area
  • The windows are huge

6
Where on the campus did we move to?
  • The area of the campus which was designated for
the new CLRC were the old engineering workshops,
including metalworking and welding and motor
    vehicle workshop.
  • The project included the building of a new
Engineering Technology Centre to house some of
    these.

7
The new tables are well spaced and shelves are
all at an accessible height
8
Fire Regulations
  • Because of Fire Regulations we could not change
the fact that the corridor goes right through the
middle of the area. This is not a good design
feature in any library as it can be so
    disruptive.
  • We have been able to minimise the disruption of
through traffic to a certain extent but the onus
has been on the staff to keep policing the area.
