TrainingIt is pertinent that this training
is completed. Upon completion, please print the

Purpose of the Time Study
  • Random moment time study will measure the amount
of time spent by the eligible staff on MAC
    activities.
  • The same time study will measure the amount of
    time spent on SHARS activities
  • RMTS results allow the State to calculate MAC
    claims and set SHARS rates

3
Random Moment Time Study Process
  • Random time study moments are sampled
    throughout the quarter
  • A Moment represents one minute at a particular
    time.
  • If you are sampled for a moment, your only
responsibility is to document what you were doing
at that precise moment by answering the three
    questions online.

4
Training the Participant
You will answer the following questions to
document what you were doing at a precise moment
in time. Question 1. Who was with you? Question

activity? Question 3. What were you doing?

Why?
  • If you are providing services defined on a

you are not aware and provide personal care
services you should know who to contact to find
out if it is defined on a students IEP.

8
Moments
  • Examples of responses that do not provide enough
    description for coding purposes.
  • If insufficient information is provided, you will
receive a follow up email or phone call
requesting additional information. If you do not
respond Fairbanks will send a follow up email to
    the coordinator.

9
Moments
  • Examples of responses with multiple activity but
does not address the moment in time.
  • If insufficient information is provided, you will
receive a follow up email or phone call
    requesting additional information.

10
Unacceptable Answers
  • Examples of unacceptable responses

11
Moment examples
  • Did this moment provide enough
    information to code?

12
Moment examples
  • No need to provide details on a
moment other than the sampled moment.
  • When you indicate you were absent, it is key to
include whether it was paid/non paid time off.

13
Moment examples
  • Did this moment provide enough
    information to code?

14
Moment examples
  • The following moments do not have
    enough information to code.
  • Both would require follow up request for
    additional information.

15
RMTS Training
  • The activity description should be a detailed
response to what it was you were doing. Please
keep in mind that the person coding the moment
has no idea of you job description tasks
performed or why they are performed. It is up to
you to provide the information needed for those
independent coders to code the response
    accurately.
  • If you use acronyms in the description of the
activity, please provide a definition of the
    acronym.
  • If you were not working, the moment should
indicate if it was paid or unpaid time off.
