BACK TO THE 60S!A WEBQUEST BY ASHLEY-ELIZABETH
VERMEULEN AND JEFF SAMUELS

INTRODUCTION
  • Take a blast to the past! Hearing about history
through the eyes of those who witnessed it first
hand is the best way to learn. Take a journey
through history with your parents, parents
friends, grandparents and so many more! Learn,
first hand, about the best decade in the history
    of the world.
  • In this web quest, you will be required to
interview people who were alive in the 1960s to
learn about their experiences. You will then
create a totally awesome Photo Story that will
show the class what you learned about the era!

3
TASK
  • In groups of two, you will be researching the a
particular area of the 1960s. These areas may
include, but are never limited to
  • Music
  • Literature
  • Civil Rights
  • Dr. Martin Luther King JR.
  • John F. Kennedy
  • Be sure to have the topic approved by your
    instructor as soon as possible!
  • In this project, you will be documenting your
process in a series of one page papers at the end
of each week, conducting interviews, and
performing research that will culminate in a
    Photo Story project.

4
MATERIALS
  • A tape recorder and an external microphone
  • Access to a computer with Microsoft Photo Story,
Picasa, or another program that supports digital
    story telling
  • The internet
  • Scanner (only if using images that are not
    already on the computer)
  • Good, quiet interview locations
  • Extra batteries and tape!

5
THE PROCESS!
6
PART 1PREPARE INTERVIEW
  • You must conduct at least interview (more are
encouraged, and will help you more with your
    project!)
  • (Be sure to include all of these steps in your
    process papers!)
  • Set up an interview
  • Tell us who the person is, and how you met them.
  • How old the person was in the 1960s, and why it
is important to document their experience
  • Prepare a series of questions for the interview
  • Be sure to research your chosen topic prior to
choosing your questions to ensure that your
questions make sense for the time period.

7
PART 2CONDUCT THE INTERVIEW
  • Conduct the interview
  • Make absolutely sure that the voice of the
interviewee is clear on the tape before you
proceed with the interview. You will need to use
    the voice in your project!
  • Process the interview tapes
  • Sit and listen to the interviews and type
everything you hear on the tape. This will be
helpful     if you choose to use a direct quote
over your photo story later on in the project.
  • These steps will be due week two! (If your
are doing multiple interviews, only one is due on
this day. All additional transcripts will be due
with your Photo Story. I understand that
sometimes there are schedule conflicts, just be
sure to let me know ASAP if these will be a
    little late!)

8
PART 3RESEARCH AND CREATE A STORY BOARD
  • Research your time period and create a story
    board
  • Find images from the internet, from magazines,
and if they will let you, from your interviewees
house. You will be using these images to create
    your photo story.
  • You do not have to use the actual images on your
story board! They can be simple drawings that
give the general idea of your picture.
  • These steps are due week three! (Guess what?
    you're almost done!)

9
PART 4CREATE YOUR PHOTOSTORY!
  • You will have to talk in this presentation, you
cannot only use dialogue from your interviews.
  • Choose music to play under your narration.
  • BE CREATIVE this project is meant to be lots of
    fun!
  • All photo stories will be turned in a week
and a half after the story boards! This should be
ample time to make a clear and concise project.
Remember, all of your classmates will be seeing
this, so make sure it is fun and interesting as
    well as informative!
