Joan of Arcs Birth

• Joan of Arc was born January 6th 1412, in
  Domrémy, located in the eastern part of France.
  She came from a poor Catholic family.

Joans Childhood

• As a peasant girl Joan never did learn how to
  read and write. Eventually she did learned how
  to sign her name. Legend has it that at the age
  of 13 Joan began hearing voices from angels such
  as St. Catherine, St. Michael, and St. Margaret.

Joans Mission

• Before the Hundred Years War, the English
  had gained great power in France. Joan believed
  God had told her to help the French heir, Charles
  the VII onto the throne. She encouraged French
  troops and even led them into battle against the
  English. English power was eventually weakened
  and Charles the VII was able to be crowned king.

Betrayal and Death

• In 1430, at the age of 18 Joan was
  arrested for heresy and sorcery. On May 30th,
  1431, she was burned at the stake. Because
  Charles VII was afraid he might lose support of
  the Church he made no attempt to save her
