  • SAFETY TIPS
  • Every year, millions of youngsters celebrate
Halloween by dressing up in costumes and asking
for treats from their neighbors and friends. This
is a tradition that goes back many, many years.
As more and more children go out to
trick-or-treat each year, their safety is
important. With this in mind, Sheriff Oliver
Glenn Boyer advises that there is several
safety tips that children and parents should keep
in mind to ensure that this will be a safe, happy
    night for everyone.

Halloween Safety
  • BEFORE TRICK-OR-TREATING
  • Wear a costume that makes it easy for you to walk
    and be seen.
  • Be sure that your costume is at the height to
    avoid tripping.
  • It is best to make or wear a costume out of a
non-flammable material so that it won't catch on
    fire.
  • Use reflective tape on your costume so people
driving cars at night can see you.

Halloween Safety
  • Avoid hard plastic or wood props such as daggers
or swords. Substitute with foam rubber that is
    soft and flexible.
  • Carry a flashlight with you at all times.
  • Try to use makeup rather than a mask, it's safer
than a mask because you can see and breath
    easily.
  • If you wear a mask, take it off before crossing a
    street.
  • Keep costumed children away from pets. The pet
may not recognize the child and become frightened
    and may attack.
