Justification
  • Equality between women and men is a consistant
    guideline of the State of Vietnam, which is shown
    in laws and policies and in everyday life.
  • Vietnam is one of the first countries that joined
    CEDAW and committed to Beijing Platform of Action
    for the Advancement of Women.

Justification
  • The realization of gender equality in reality is
    facing many challenges including implementation
    mechanism.
  • The formulation and issue of Gender Equality Law
    creates opportunities to strengthen the machinery
    for gender equality, institutionalize the States
    guidelines towards an effectively implementation
    mechanism.

Workshop Contents
  • 3 main topics
  • Role and functions of national machineries for
    gender equality.
  • Role and functions of oversight and enforcement
    agencies.
  • Sanctions and judicial process.

Working framework
  • Presentations of over 20 national and
    international experts.
  • Each topic involving a chair and a discussant.
  • Panel discussions and group discussions.

Participants
  • National participants leaders from NCFAW,
    Vietnam womens union, the Drafting Committee,
    National Assembly and Governmental Office,
    ministries, branches, people organizations,
    research agencies, NGOs, etc.
  • International participants experts from
    Indonesia, Mongolia, the Philippines, China,
    Switzerland, Australia, ADB, UN organizations,
    Embassies, etc.

Expected Outcomes
  • Participants attend full-time and actively at the
    2-day workshop.
  • Experiences and lessons are drawn for
    discussions.
  • A machinery model, effective implementation and
    oversight mechanisms as well as sanctions
    feasible for the Gender Equality Law are
    proposed.
