  • Two sore throat studies
  • Both have a web based clinical data collection
    form
  • DESCARTE MRC study recruiting 18,000 patients
    with sore throat documenting presenting symptoms.
  • Comparing those patients who recover with those
    who develop complications will reveal specific
    symptoms which are associated with serious
    outcome.
  • Currently recruiting throughout the SW region
    (Poster)
  • PRISM A DH funded study investigating the
    effectiveness of Streptococcal rapid testing kits
    compared to symptom evaluation or delayed
    prescription in targeting antibiotic use in
    patients with sore throat.

DeNDRoN 007
  • AZ study adopted on the UKCRN portfolio,
    currently led by DeNDRoN
  • This study will be recruiting dementia patients
    and their carers in both primary care and
    secondary care. The aim is to provide information
    on carer burden in dementia via a questionnaire
    and also assessment of the severity of dementia
    as assessed by MMSE. The study will be recruiting
    20 pairs in the East Hub region.
  • 7 practices have expressed an interest in
    recruiting for this study

HEAT
  • Developmental MRC pilot trial designing a study
    to assess whether eradicating H. pylori in
    patients taking low dose aspirin reduces
    gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • First step assessing the prevalence of aspirin
    use and of H. pylori infection in aspirin users,
    the success of eradication treatment and the
    acceptability of breath testing and eradication
    to patients.

  • GRACE (EU)
  • Programme of research into cough and chest
    infections in 10 EU countries
  • Two parts RCT assessing the effect of
    amoxycillin or placebo in altering symptom
    duration and severity in acute LRTI.
    Observational study those presenting with LRTI,
    variables will be identified that predict
    prognosis.
  • GLOW
  • Funded by an educational trust recruiting 42000
    women over 55 from 9 countries
  • Surveying annual data regarding osteoporosis risk
    and management over 5 years
