Approach overview
Main idea The MFM of a product is built
incrementally by updating the previous
intermediate MFM of the product according to the
current DFM of the product . To correctly
update the previous intermediate MFM to get the
current intermediate MFM, the area of the
products B-rep which has to be recognized due to
the changes of topological elements is determined
firstly, then perform the local feature
recognition on this area and update the previous
intermediate MFM according to the feature
recognition results .
7
Desing feature model
Machining feature model
Add a design feature DF3
8
The flow of incremental feature conversion
  • four steps
  • Create the DLL
  • Determine the local area
  • Perform local feature recognition
  • Update the MFM

9
Classification of topological elements
  • Unchanged element (U) f2
  • Changed element (C) f1
  • Deleted element (D)
  • New generated element (N) f3

10
Structure of DLL
To determine the content of the O_ID and N_ID,
use a naming and identifying mechanism of
topological elements
11
construction of DLL and Determination of the area
needing to be recognized
12

Conclusion
  • The approach has the following characteristics
  • Feature recognition is used, the approach is more
    robust and general.
  • using local feature recognition, has high
    efficiency.
  • Dynamic Link List
  • future work
  • enable the approach to deal with more types of
    feature models
  • automatically transfer the change on the MFM made
by the engineer to the corresponding DFM
