Facts about Helium

• The chemists Lockyear and Frankland named the
  element.
• It was named after the sun and the Latin word is
  Helios.
• Helium has no color or smell.
• Helium is the first of the Noble Gases.
• Helium only has one atomic shell which fills up
  when it has two electrons.

Helium used in Lasers

• Some times helium is used in lasers.
• Its a good element to use because it is
  non-reactive
• At high temperatures helium would not bond with
  other elements.

Blimps

• Blimps use helium to stay in the air during a
  football game.
• Helium is lighter than regular air so it helps
  things float.
• If a blimp is filled with helium it can float a
  very long time.

Compressed Air Tanks

• Scuba Divers wear air tanks that use helium.
• Divers combine helium and regular air in those
  tanks at very high pressure.
• When they go deep in the water the helium makes
  it easier to breathe.
