Who are Volunteering England?
  • Launched 1 April 2004
  • New Volunteer Development Agency for England
  • Merger of National Centre for Volunteering
    Volunteering Development England (NAVB) and the
    Consortium on Opportunities for Volunteering
  • Understand volunteering to include formal
    activity undertaken through public, private and
    voluntary organisations as well as informal
    community participation

  • Undertake research, policy, campaigns and
    development activity
  • Secure and support and England-wide network of
    high quality volunteer development agencies,
    promoting and enabling volunteering and community
    involvement
  • Provide grants, support and advice to sustain and
    develop volunteering

Regional work and my role
  • One regional volunteering development officer
    like myself now based in each region of England
  • Work involves
  • Representing volunteering at regional level with
    organisations such as Sport England, COVER,
    GOEAST
  • Strengthen links between volunteer centre network
    and other networks
  • Locally supporting Volunteer Centres with
    quality accreditation, branding and VE link in
    region

  • Framework setting out 10 year vision for building
    the capacity of frontline organisations and
    putting in place the infrastructure they need.
  • Framework result of consultation and close
    working between govt, local public sector and
    voluntary and community sector
