- Read all directions carefully.
- Underline key words or phrases.
- Use your reading strategies (i.e. predict,
clarify).

- Be aware of the question type (main idea, detail,
authors purpose). - Look back in the selection for details to help
you answer the questions. - Use process of elimination.

- Students must
- carefully read a paragraph and correct errors in
- sentence structure i.e. run-ons
- punctuation i.e. comma use
- capitalization i.e. titles
- grammar i.e. verb tense
- usage i.e. their/there/theyre

18Strategies for Editing
- Read the paragraph VERY slowly, saying each word
to yourself. - Use your pencil to touch each word and each
punctuation mark.
19Strategies for Editing Continued
- You may need to add something, remove something
or change something. - Correct only what is wrong. You are editing not
revising.
20Pace Yourself for the Listening/Editing Task
- Keep an eye on the clock
