  • Between 1980 and 2004 there was civil war in
    Liberia
  • 150,000 PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN THE FIGHTING

  • These teachers and carers live in a town 6 miles
    away
  • They get up at five to cook breakfast then leave
    home at six to walk to the school it takes two
    hours
  • On the road it can be very hot, dusty and sweaty
    for them and they have nothing to drink
  • They cannot afford to take a bus even if one
    comes
  • In the wet season it rains very hard and the road
    is muddy
  • They leave the orphanage at four oclock in the
    afternoon and get home at six.
  • Then they have to cook and care for their
    families
  • Out of twelve hours, four are spent walking and
    eight are spent teaching
  • This wastes a lot of time

    that they can cycle to and from rainbow town
