ASAP
2
  • The ASAP Approach
  • Developed to counter some of the perceived
    problems
  • Perception that SAP implementations are long,
require many consultants and are expensive.
  • To be successful in mid- to small-size market SAP
    must change this perception
  • ASAP is an alternative (addition) to the
    procedure model/IMG approach
  • Aims for SAP implementation in less than 6 months

3
  • AcceleratedSAP (ASAP)
  • SAP's comprehensive solution to streamline R/3
    projects.
  • Optimizes time, quality and efficient use of
    resources.
  • ASAP integrates three components
  • ASAP Roadmap,
  • Tools, and
  • R/3 Service and Training.

4
  • Key change in ASAP methodology is the absence of
    BPR?!
  • ASAP suggests that the enterprise adapt to the
    SAP model
  • Once implemented may re-engineer the business
    processes
  • (But an ERP system by their very nature requires
    re-engineering of business systems)
  • ASAP is recommended by SAP for implementation.

5
  • ASAP
  • Comprises many types of files used to guide a
    project from start to finish.
  • Quality checks at predefined points to ensure
    completeness before continuing the project
  • Includes project plans, white papers, help files
    presentations

  • The AcceleratedSAP Roadmap
  • A process - oriented project plan throughout
    implementation
  • Tools include
  • Project management support,
  • Questionnaires for the business consultants,
  • Technical guidebooks and checklists.

8
  • R/3 Services and Training include
  • All consulting, training, and support services
  • Hotline,
  • EarlyWatch,
  • Remote Upgrade or Archiving Service, etc.
  • These help to standardize tasks and to perform
    them as quickly as possible.

9
  • The Roadmap consists of five phases
  • Project Preparation
  • Business Blueprint
  • Realization (Simulation Validation)
  • Final Preparation
  • Go Live Support
  • Trained consultants are required
  • May be from SAP Or SAP Partner.

    Business Blueprint.

  • Training for the new processes continues
  • In-house specialists to take over consultants role

  • R/3 System documentation and the ASAP Question
    Answer database contain industry-specific
information and are the ideal places to look for
    information.
  • Support the analysis of the selected business
    processes by model-based presentations of
    industry-specific business processes.
  • A structure for every industry exists in the ASAP
Question Answer database, which is used to
    produce an industry-specific Business Blueprint
(Phase 2 of the ASAP Roadmap).

19
  • Industry-specific Customizing is the name given
to the installation of the default Customizing
parameters in the IMG that relate to a certain
    industry.
  • Transfer industry-specific master data structures
to the system by using a Computer Aided Testing
    Tool (CATT)
  • CATTs are provided for the industry-specific
    business cases defined by SAP.

20
  • Industry business solutions are integrated in the
    Business Framework as Business Components.
  • The implementation of the system can also be a
    Ready-to-Run R/3 System solution (RRR).
  • This solution is the complete delivery of
hardware and software to rapidly install the R/3
    System.

  • SAP has developed Global ASAP as the standard
    implementation methodology for global
    implementations of R/3.
  • Maps all activities not taking place at a local
level onto a special structure called the Global
    Roadmap.
  • This Roadmap is structured according to the
    AcceleratedSAP principle and includes
  • How-To's, accelerators, modeling methods and
    tools.
  • This roadmap is linked to the individual
AcceleratedSAP project roadmaps for the projects
    at the local level.

23
  • One global implementation strategy involves
defining a pre-configured corporate system, in
the sense of a "corporate or global template".
  • The global template is the sum of all
    enterprise-specific configurations, customizing
settings, models and so forth which are included
in one R/3 System as a single source of reference
for productive systems on the global and local
    levels (individual companies and plants).
  • This implementation approach is also referred to
as the global template rollout of the R/3 System.

24
  • The Global ASAP Roadmap consists of 4 Phases
  • Global Program Set-Up
  • Global Business Blueprint
  • Global Realization
  • Global Maintenance Support

  • Transfer the default values and data for the
industry solution by using CATTs (Computer Aided
    Testing Tool) in client 000.
  • This does not affect the delivery client 000 as
it acts as an upgrade client during a release
    upgrade.
  • In client 001, which is also installed by SAP,
the same default values and data as in client 000
    are used.
  • Client 001 is used as a basis for your
    business-specific Customizing activities. Create
country-specific default values in these clients
by using the country installation program.
  • Transfer the default values created in the
respective clients to other clients following
    integration tests.

27
  • After creating all the relevant data and default
values, and following one final integration test,
begin the transport to the productive system.
  • The CTS (Change and Transport System) tool is
    used.
  • Use the SAP LSM Workbench (Legacy System
Migration Workbench) tool to transfer old or
    external data.
  • The above does not take any customer developments
    into consideration.
