Electrical RegulationsApril 1,2006
  • New Regulations
  • 181 to 195
  • Drafted by a committee of Stake Holders in the
    Electrical industry. EUSA,CSAO, IBEW, ECAO,
    Ontario Hydro. Min. of Labour all selecting
    representatives to review the old regulations.
  • Reviewed electrical incidents.
  • Sent out draft amendments to stakeholders for
    comment.

  • Performed in accordance with Electrical and
    Utility Safety Rules published by the Electrical
    and Utilities Safety Association of Ontario dated
    August.2004
  • Sections 182,187,188,189,190,191,and 193 do not
    apply.

Worker Qualifications
  • Workers who connect Maintain or modify equipment
    or installations .
  • Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act
    Construction and Maintenance Electrician or
    Apprentice.
  • Or otherwise permitted under the Trades
    Qualifications and Apprenticeship and
    Certification Act 1998, or Technical Standards
    and Safety Act,2000

Temporary Wiring
  • Section 113 Electricity Act.
  • Will done in accordance with requirement on a
    project.

Over Head Conductors
  • Distances remain the same
  • The Constructor shall, establish and implement
    written measures and procedures.
  • Then make a copy available to every employer on
    the project.
  • Written Measures and procedures.
  • Must include adequate warning devices. .

  • The operator will be given written notification
    before work begins. Legible sign required in the
    operators cabin
  • Before a worker begins work the employer will
    provide a copy of the procedures to worker and
    will explain them to the worker.
  • The worker shall follow the procedures
  • A competent signaller is required in full view of
    the operator and the conductor

  • Employer to establish written Measures and
    Procedures.

Live Work
  • Not Reasonably possible to disconnect the
    equipment, installation or conductor from the
    power supply.
  • Nominal voltage of 600 volts or less and would
    create a greater to a worker than proceeding
    without disconnecting it.
  • Diagnostic Testing.

  • The Constructor will ensure written measures and
    procedures are established and implemented.
  • Copy available to every employer.
  • Before a worker begins work the employer shall
    make a copy of the procedures available and
    explain them to the worker.
  • The worker shall follow the procedures.

  • The worker shall use mats shields and other
    protective devices.
  • Over 300 volts adequately equipped competent
    worker who can perform rescue operations with CPR
    stationed within view of the worker performing
    the work. (not required for diagnostic testing)

  • Equipment Installation or conductor rated at,
    greater than 400 amperes and greater than 200
    volts greater than 200 amperes than 300 volts
  • The owner will have to provide the constructor /
    employer with records showing that the equipment
    has been maintained.
  • A copy of those records shall be on the project.

  • Then the employer can determine if work can be
    performed safely with out disconnecting it.
  • Before beginning the worker has to verify that
    there is the record, it is on the project, and
    the work can performed safely.

Adequate Equipment
  • All equipment must meet the current Underwriters
    Laboratories of Canada Standards.
  • Requirement to test rubber gloves rated over
    5000 volts.
