What is Elluminate?

• Software that allows multiple users to login
  synchronously to share a host of collaborative
  tools (e.g., chat, white board, polling,
  hand-raising, response voting)
• User participation can be via microphone
  (half-duplex audio), chat box, instant messaging,
  whiteboard, polling/voting
• Sample collaborative synchronous tools
  Elluminate, HorizonLive, Webex, Macromedia
  Breeze, MS Live Meeting

How is it being used in HE?

• Live, online class sessions (learning focus
  participants collaborate to learn new skill)
• Student group meetings/work sessions (multiple
  private groups can use it at once)
• Synchronous office hours/tutoring/advising
  sessions with application sharing
• Committee meetings (work on common document
  fine-tune future presentation together
  brainstorm project strategies conduct interviews)

• Live sessions are archived for later review by
  those unable to attend
• Just-in-time professional development (short,
  mostly one-way product demos or SME
  presentations asynchronous)
