Title: The vision of the Paul Wolff Accessibility Advocacy Award is to create a more accessible San Luis Ob

1
  • The vision of the Paul Wolff Accessibility
Advocacy Award is to create a more accessible San
Luis Obispo County by supporting projects and
programs which break down barriers physical,
    attitudinal and informational that limit
participation and contributions of people with
disabilities AND by honoring and encouraging
those involved in leading such efforts.

Nominees
3
Alice Carter
  • Geographic Information Systems Manager for the
City of San Luis Obispo partnered with Marji
Holt, volunteer with a mission, to expeditiously
produce an incredibly detailed online database of
the city's sidewalk ramps. This invaluable tool
enables people who use wheelchairs to find
    barrier-free routes through the cityscape.

4
Marji Holt
  • This remarkable woman has been an extremely
persuasive and motivated advocate for citizens
    who use wheelchairs. After exhaustively
surveying San Luis Obispo's cityscape for
sidewalk ramps, she encouraged the city to
publish an interactive online map and then
partnered with city employee Alice Carter to do
just that. By showing where sidewalk ramps exist,
and where they don't, this dynamic private
citizen public agency duo has enabled those who
need ramps to plan accessible routes.

5
Barry Johnson
  • Director of Adult Rehabilitation and Advocacy
    Programs for Transitions-Mental Health
Association who has, for many years, been an
energetic and inspiring advocate for the homeless
and mentally ill. In 2003, he successfully
rallied community support to protect funding for
vital programs and services that can mean the
difference between hope and despair for the
    mentally ill.

6
Carol Lopes

    developmental disabilities who serves as
volunteer advisor for the local chapter of People

and community organizer is widely admired and
respected for her exceptional ability to promote
self-advocacy skills and to bring out the best in
    others.

7
Susan Reese
  • Chairperson of the Central Coast Low Vision

for blind and visually impaired community members
