Definition of Proprioception
  • Joint position sense without visual input
  • Measurements help inform physical therapist of
    patients ability to determine limb location in
    space
  • Also helpful in determining whether therapy
    interventions are necessary

  • Blind fold individual
  • Place the limb into a test position
  • Hold in test position for a few seconds
  • Record angle of test position
  • Return to starting position
  • Patient places limb into the testing position
  • Record angle of repeated attempt
