Italia Capri 4 Anacapri Monte Solaro

Description:

Capri is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. The main town Capri that is located on the island shares the name. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. The island of Capri, one of biggest draws for the region of Campania, is famous for its intensely beautiful landscape and scenery. Monte Solaro (589m above sea level), is the highest point on Capri. With one of Monte Solaro’s nicknames being Acchiappanuvole (cloud catcher), you are lucky if you get a clear view. The temperature difference between the sea and the rocks makes the warmer sea air condense into a thick blanket of fog, and in the mornings and afternoons you often can’t see the summit at all. But on a beautiful spring day, the sky was clear and the mountain was calling – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Monte Solaro

Capri is an island located in the Tyrrhenian
Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south
side of the Gulf of Naples. The main
town Capri that is located on the island shares
the name. It has been a resort since the time of
the Roman Republic
3
Anacapri is located on the slopes of Mount Solaro
and has about 7,000 residents. The Ancient
Greek prefix ana- means "up" or "above",
signifying that Anacapri is located at a higher
elevation on the island than Capri (about 150 m
higher on average)
4
During the rapid ascent in the chair lift (some
13 minutes) to the summit of the mountain, the
tourist has an opportunity to enjoy the splendid
views of the Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius in the
background, the Gulf of Salerno, Anacapri, the
Isle of Ischia and the incomparable beauty of the
colour of the sea. Monte Solaro is the highest
point on Capri.

Monte Solaro (589m above sea level), is the
highest point on Capri. It is characterized by a
deeply eroded slope to the east and south east
right down to the sea and a incline which falls
towards Anacapri
28
At the summit there is a cafe with panoramic
terraces usually busy with chairlift arrivals,
but the surrounding slopes are much more peaceful
and ideal for photos. When the weather is clear
the views are beautiful

The ruined 18th-century fort, the Fortino di
Bruto, a blockhouse which was used in battles
between Britain and France in the early 19th
century. In the 1950s a holiday complex called
the Canzone del Cielo (Song of Heaven) was built
at the summit, where visitors could swim or relax
in the solarium while enjoying the views. Its
closed down now unfortunately, but their old
American Bar has been converted into a terrace
café/bar
