Japans cherry blossoms usually get all the
attention for their short-lived beauty. But
equally ephemeral are Japans Nemophila, or Baby
Blue Eyes. And once a year, around late April to
Early May, an astounding sea of more than 5
million of these little flowers cover the land
for a little over a week

Ibaraki Prefecture, a little over 2 hours north
of Tokyo

According to the flower calendar, in Hitachi
Seaside Park over 5 million of these Baby Blue
Eyes paint the hills blue in Spring in an event
referred to as Nemophila Harmony

Over 5 million blue nemophila flowers bloom at
the 3.5-hectare Miharashi Hills and transform the
field to the never ending blue ocean. Miharashi
Hills are located at 58 m above sea level,
offering an amazing panoramic view of the
flowers, blue sky and the ocean, all in blue

The 215 hectare park features many kinds of
seasonal flowers all year around, but the best
season to visit there is in spring when Nemophila
Harmony is held from late April to mid May

the city of Hitachinaka, Hitachi Seaside Park
offers beautiful flowers in its well-kept, large
gardens throughout the year. In spring,
narcissuses, tulips and nemophila (baby blue
eyes) attract lots of visitors. In early summer,
poppies and roses, and in summer, zinnias and
sunflowers, bloom. In autumn, you can enjoy
kochia (summer cypress) and cosmos flowers. In
winter, ice tulips can be seen, making for a rich
complement of flora throughout the year
