Title: Everything you need to know about ACL injuries

1
Everything you need to know about ACL injuries
2
Overview
The knee joint comprises three bones the
shinbone, thighbone, and patella. Maintaining the
proper alignment of these bones are four
ligaments, while tendons connect the bones to
muscles. Additionally, cartilage plays a crucial
role as a shock absorber and facilitates smooth
movement. Among the four ligaments, the anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of two that form a
cross shape within the knee. It connects the
thighbone to the shinbone and plays a vital role
in providing stability to the knee joint. Damage
to the ACL is a relatively common, significant,
and often painful knee injury that can impact
mobility and overall knee function. AOSM has the
best ACL surgeons in Delhi that provides
treatment for all ACL injuries.

Symptoms of ACL Injuries
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Difficulty or Inability to Extend the Knee
  • Discomfort When Walking
  • Soreness Around the Knee
  • An Inability to Put Weight On the Leg
  • A Feeling That the Knee May Give Out

4
Causes of ACL Injuries
  • Overstretching the knee
  • Sudden starts, stops, or changes of direction
    while moving
  • A blow to the knee, especially from the side

5
Types of ACL Injuries
  • Grade 1 sprains In this grade, the ACL is
stretched beyond its normal range but still
retains its ability to stabilize the knee.
  • Grade 2 sprains Referred to as a partial tear,
this grade indicates that the ACL has stretched
to a point where it becomes loose.
  • Grade 3 sprains Also called a complete tear,
this grade signifies that the ACL has torn into
two pieces, resulting in a loss of control over
    the kneecap.

6
Treatment
  • Raising the foot above the head's level to
    promote elevation
  • Applying a towel-wrapped ice pack to the knee for
    cold therapy
  • Taking ibuprofen as a pain and swelling-reducing
    measure
  • Seeking medical attention from a doctor for
    evaluation and appropriate treatment
